i would like to put a turbo in my '90 ea but was told by an old friend that
although i could do it i would not be able to run very much boost pressure
because of the compresion ratios and so would waste the turbo, he told me
that you can get engines for the ea designed for use with turbo's but wasn't
sure where or how much, i was wondering if some one in here could tell me
wether it would be worth while getting a new engine or just tacking a turbo
on to the the engine and how much it would cost and who and where in
townsville or north queensland in general (!!GO MAROONES!!!) to see for a
good deal

I know that Modern Motor fitted a Sprintex Supercharger to an XF Falcon back
in 1987 as a project car. As your EA's engine is similar to the XF I suggest
you talk to these guys if you want to get more go from your EA:

I don't claim to be the ultimate mechanic who knows all about all,
however, to the best of my knowledge, the 4.1 in the xf was very
different to the 3.9 in the ea.  Also, As far as turbocharging the ea,
I wouldn't bother, go the engine swap.  Maybe a later model falcon
engine or somethin.  The Ea was such a dog of an engine.  Hope I have
helped

Cheers, Waity.

That would be an understatement.

Both the 4.1 and 3.9 respond well to turbocharging. They might not like a
rev but both can make gobs of reliable torque with the suitable setup.

That is where supercharging would be an advantage. As these old 6 cylinder
engines did not like to rev hard, turbo charging would not work as well as a
turbo improves as the revs increase. The sprintex supercharger would work
down low in the rev range where these engines like to be operated at. The
superchargers disadvantage is that it does not like to rev as the
mechanical/frictional losses are high at high RPM. Which is not a problem in
XF / EA engines as neither are worth reving beyond 3500 odd RPM.

Or twin turbos.

The plumbing for a twin turbo installation would be a lot more difficult.
But if you could set it up that the turbos 'kick in' at different stages
then you have a real potent engine. That is two different sized turbos. The
smaller turbo to start proceedings and then the bigger turbo to take over at
the top end.

the multipoint ea is to bad, its the throttle body injection thats got the
bad name, 4.0L is the better engine but the later the engine the higher
compression, the best engine to use is the eb or xh ute that used the run
out model eb engine the compression is 8.8. mate of mine is runnin stoch
xh ute engine in his eb runnin 15 psi, made 255KW at the wheels (342HP) he
ran it WSID drags ran 12.58 1/4 mile with slicks and a mod BTR auto, stock
single wheeler 3.27 final drive, hardy no turbo lag(turbo is GT35R, 1.06
A/R exhaust, 0.70 compresser, ex 48mm wastegate) it all depends want you
want it for street/ stripe/ drag car but one with turbo cars low boost for
street higher boost for stripe, the turbo cause any where bewteen $7500 to
10.000 complete dependin on much you do yourself (u will need
intercooler,pipin,hosein and clamps,turbo manifold,wastegate,oil lines off
the sender unit and return line, wate line, dump pipe and exhaust, blow off
vaule, fuel pump fuel regular, larger injecters, arfermarket combuter and of
cause a turbo.
