Peter, I don't know how much you know about engines or anything else for
that matter but I can help you with some basic stuff.
Set the (cold) exhaut valves to ... say ... 9thou and the inlets to 7thou
for starters, then recheck after re-tesioning the head gasket (if req'd).
Use the firing order to help you set the tappets in the right order. ie;
This means you only have to turn the crank around two full turns to do all
four sets.
four cylinder firing order: 1 3 4 2 = 1 , 3
4 , 2
Adjust number 1 cylinder when number 4's tappets are rocking. Number 1's
will be at TDC compression stroke.
Do Number three next when number 2's are rocking, do 4 when 1 is and so
on.....(you get the drift)
The method and valve clearences mentioned above are only rough guides and
figures. You should follow the proper specifications from a manual.
