The high beam has stopped working (low beam ok) We took the bulbs out
and hit them with 12v - both ok. mmm. What now?
Could it be the relay? Where would the relay be for this?
Thanks

Try checking the wiring circuit, maybe the cluster has a short some where, i
recall a friends XD did the same thing and he found a short in the wiring,
mainly in the cluster unit itself. Other than that, maybe a wrecking yard
might have a whole unit you can test.
Good luck.

Dead relay I'm betting.

Drivers side inner guard @ the top is where they are located. There is three
of them if memory serves me correct.

Right on! I swapped the relays (which look the same) to see what would
happen and bingo high beam works.
Thanks all for your help.

if no luck with wiring or relay the highbeam switch in the cluster is a
possibility, was in my XE, from memory it was an abortion of a set up but
was lucky and got it going again.

From memory the headlight relays are on the drivers side of the engine bay
right in front of the vacuum assist thingo. They are removable from their
cradles. One for low and one for high.
