92 EA Falcon transmission problem

For about a week there was a delay between selecting reverse in the
automatic transmission and the gear actually engaging. Then since the
weekend the gear doesn't engage at all. I'm not sure if the forward gears
work because I'm parked in front of a vertical drop and don't want to take
the chance of flying over it. The dipstick seems to show adequate fluid in
the transmission.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

you need to move it , 3 speed ?
if its a bw 35 then it may be a simple draining of fluid , but get it
on the flat and see what's happening .

Atec,

I'm completely non-mechanical so all I can report is that the shift gives me
a choice of P-R-N-D-3-2-1

I don't know what a bw 35 is, but if draining the fluid and replacing it is
an option I'll give it a go.  It's parked on level ground but I can't shift
the thing without a tow.

Thanks again.

I owned a 3/90 EA wagon, and came across the same problem. After reading
several service booklets at a local Ford dealer, it sounds like it needs a
gearbox service, when i changed my filter and gasket, the problem went away.
Other hassles i found were the reostats, think that is right. In my EA 4
auto 4 speed there were 4 of them i recall by memory, and i had these
checked and Ford said get them replaced. I did and the 4 speed went even
better. How long since you had the gearbox serviced ??

Peter

Hope this helps

Solenoid valves not rheostats.  A 92 should be a BTR 4 speed not
a Borg Warner 35   3 speed and start by changing the fluid and
filter and adjusting the bands... get it serviced!!!
