Hi folks;
              Any of you local guys ( Maryborough Qld ) like to visit my
house and show me how to adjust the tappets on my 1300 escort ?? would be
much appreciated.

its very easy . shoot me an email if you cant find a Gregory's manual.

I have one but cant understand when it says adjust 4 while 3 is rocking ???

It means that when the exhaust valve has just closed on number three and the
inlet valve is about to open, that's the point where the cam lobes on number
4 are in the correct position to adjust the valve clearance.

Here's an easier way if you can't follow that.

Wind the engine over until the 3rd and 8th valve are fully open, and adjust
the clearance on the 1st and 6th.
Wind over again until the 5th and 7th are fully open, and adjust the 2nd and
4th.
Go again until the 1st and 6th are fully open, and adjust the 3rd and 8th,
and finally when the 2nd and 4th are fully open, adjust the 5th and 7th.

The valve numbering here is from front to rear.

just turn the motor over until you find the loosest spot on a rocker ,
the rest will go over your head ... ( Im suggesting your question
indicates this)

Gee many of you guys make it sound so simple, lol  maybe they should have a
auto book for me, adjusting tappets for dummies  lol
