When I bought my F150 back in 1989 I was able to buy a Ford workshop
manual for, from memory, about $75. When I recently bought a RTV (my
F150 is still going strong but it getting a bit old for long trips) I
was told no
Ford manual was available. In fact a search on the Web indicated that
one was available but the cost was $990! Obviously Ford are not
looking for mass circulation!
Has there been any indication of a change in Ford's philosophy on
workshop manuals? Also I cannot find much offering from Gregory's,
Haynes or Ellery for the BA - Ellery said maybe 12 - 18 months.
Gregory's have not yet replied to my fax.

Obviously.
If you wanted to make things difficult for anyone other than your dealership
service network, would you still be putting manuals out for 75 bucks?

It won't be long.
Most new after market manuals usually appear around 18 months to 2 years
after the car does, as that seems to be the time when most people who are
interested in doing some of their own maintenance stop going to a dealer.

they can give you the number). 2 -3 years ago i got the XF ones (2 manuals)
for $120.

I got the followiong from Collins:
I checked with the distributors who advised this guide would not be
out for
a good 12 months or so, as the BA Falcon has only been around a couple
of
years, and the guides usually don't come out until at least 3 years
after
the car.
Kind regards

I also sent a fax to the number quoted in Gregory's publications but
have not had a response.
Haynes have an Australian web page:
http://www.haynes.com.au/
and this certainly covers Gregory's manuals as well as Haymes. So you
may be right.
One worry with Haynes manuals is that they all contain much common
material. This may help to give their books bulk but it is wrong to
include material not specific to the vehicle which the manual is
suppoed to cover. I have no esxerience of Gregory's manuals - do they
do this too? Stuff about how i mp;ortant it to check the oil and
rotate the tyres? And make sure there is petro in the tank?
