a simple saturday afternoon transmission service, turned into a pain in the
arse.

Repco brand transmission filter kit used, pan gasket supplied leaks in 3
places, should i of bought it genuine? I've done this many times before on
other makes of cars and never had a problem, although always used genuine.

Also, the magnet at the front of the pan had swelled to the size of a golf
ball coated with sh.t and the pan grooves were flush with the surface full
of crud too. all this at 140,000k's behind a 5L.

should i be worried ?

I never use Repco kits , normally Bursons which seem to be a little
better made , worth looking about I think , recommend Lubrimaxx
lubricants as well .

I wouldn't be overly concerned if it's running okay, but it's worthwhile
using a good gasket sealant on the pan gaskets *and* torquing them to spec
in the required pattern if you wish to avoid leaks.

Note to self, don't sandwich exhaust heat shielding over electrical
connection to transmission between pan and transmission!

didn't see the bugger there, $13 for a new gasket from ford, genuine BTR,
which is what is in the repco kit surprisingly, and 4 litres of tq95 later
and it doesn't loose a drop.

shifting is so much smoother with new fluid, even better now with yet
another fresh 4 litres in there. I didn't see any access to a torque
converter drain plug at all anywhere, don't they have one? I would love to
of replaced all the fluid for new.

one more thing, for the last 2 years, and only in econo mode, which I never
use anyway, there is shift flaring between 2nd and 3rd, its never got any
worse and never has misbehaved in any other way, shifting is perfectly
smooth with econo mode off. what's this likely to be?
