Hey, does anyone know any of the following:

1) How to tell which of the 4 power output specs is under the bonnet? (157 /
164 / 168 / 172 KW)
2) If a 157 KW, what mods can take it to 164KW
3) What the best oil (brand and variety) for this car at 110,000Km
4) How much improvement in fuel economy and output when running on PULP such
as Shell optimax?
5) What known bugs to keep a lookouot for in this model?

Eagerly awaiting feedback..

I can answer #1

157 was the standard 6cyl engine (Forte. Futura, Fairmont) - it is the one
without the red rocker cover
164 was fitted to the XR6 HP - it has a red rocker cover
168 was fitted to the 6cyl Fairmont Ghia - red rocker cover and VCT gear at
the front of the engine
172 was fitted to the XR6 VCT - red rocker cover and VCT gear at the front
of the engine

The difference between the 168 and 172 engines is that the Fairmont Ghia ran
a different exhaust system which resulted in the loss of 4 kW. The VCT
engine was offered in the Fairmont Ghia in response to the supercharged V6
fitted to the Calais at that time.

The only thing I'm not sure about is what 6 cylinder engine options were
fitted to the the equivalnet long wheel base models (i.e. Fairlane/Fairlane
Ghia/LTD)

I _believe_ they were fitted with the 168kw motor (as found in Fairmont
Ghia), although cannot be 100% certain.

Also remember that there is no such thing as a "regular" Fairlane (non-Ghia)
anymore.  They are all Fairlane Ghias.

OK - forgot about that.
