Second and Third are good results, plus Murphy did drive well.

6 of the top ten were falcons. (trying to find something positive)

I wanna know why Ambros and Ingall didn't cream everyone. What's going on
there? Ambrose has been unstoppable this season (well, when he is actually
driving the car).

Cheers,

Daniel.

"6 of the top ten were falcons. (trying to find something positive)"

If kudos were given for quantity over quality then maybe the above statement
would mean something. But it doesn't so the above is irrelevant. The quality
finished at the front of the field and that's all the matters.

2nd place = first loser
3rd place = second loser

Winning Bathurst is everything in Australian motorsport. Nobody remembers
anything else. Who finished 2nd in 1985? Who finished 3rd in 1998? Most
people don't know or care!

I Like falcons because they're generally a nicer car to drive than a
commodore and also the interior (excluding AU) has always looked better and
more modern than the equivalent commodore.

I couldn't give a toss what a totally irrelevant shell of a vehicle does on
a racetrack, the whole idea is very boring aswell. Wow, cars driving around
in circles all Sunday afternoon, I can think of allot better things to do.
there's more to enjoying Fords than a stupid race.

Yep, you could watch a green ball being smacked back and forth over a
net, watch a bunch of guys in tight shorts chase a wobbly ball around
or even watch a bunch of blokes standing around on an oval smacking a
red ball  (in between SMSing porn) around....

Don't actually follow any sports at all, no one in my family does, cept some
troglodytes that are related by marriage, not saying that its bad to follow
sport either.

How very un-Australian.

Its nothing to do with sport, your belittling people who watch car
racing as a form of entertainment which is un-Australian. I'm not keen
on Opera but I respect that others enjoy it and its not boring to
them.
Falcon Freak - 15 Oct 2003 10:06 GMT
I agree that the you cannot draw any parallels between the race cars and the
road cars anymore. However as the profile of the event is so large the
prestige of winning the event results in huge marketing bonanza for the
winner. So much so that the general public fail to see that the road car is
not the same as the race car. For example some of my mates ask my why the
Holdens do not race with the GenIII V8! The general public is ignorant.

So am I - it just that the thin spells are so f.cking long that it sucks.
Why can't it be the other war around with Ford winning most of the races and
Holden getting the odd occasional Bathurst victory?

We are getting there with the most wins to Falcons this year.
Don't forget that HRT (Greg #51 is in reality a HRT car)  are the only
Holden team doing the winnings and they have been in the business as
the largest, best funded team for around 15 years, Ford have woken up
to that and as a result we have FPR in there first year of racing in a
new car.
Falcon Freak - 22 Oct 2003 11:03 GMT
So does this mean that we have to wait 10 years before FPR starts
dominating? (because that is how long it took to get HRT to the position it
has been in for the last several season)

I don't see how you came to that conclusion, obviously the
circumstances are completely different. All I was essentially saying
is FPR havn't even raced a full season yet and considering that, they
havn't done to badly.

As for domination like HRT, I don't think any team will do that again.
That domination was aided by the AU Falcon being a dud race car and
the parity rules not being correctly applied although i'm not taking
anything away from HRT, they were clearly the best during their
dominating period.
Falcon Freak - 23 Oct 2003 13:24 GMT
How did I come to that conclusion? Easy - HRT was formed in 1987 and were
basically crap until 1996 when Craig Lowndes won everthing that season.
Since 1996 HRT have been dominant for every season except for 1997 when Glen
Seton won the ATCC. And the only reason for this was due to the poor
reliability of the HRT cars in 1997 due to continual drive train failures
(expecially the rear axle as HRT experimented with light weight
differentials which was banned not long after that season).

See, you don't need to be Einstein to work that out.

So you are saying just because HRT took ten years to do it then FPR
will?

If this is what your basing it on, then i'm afraid I see your logic as
flawed.
Falcon Freak - 24 Oct 2003 10:06 GMT
No I'm not saying it will take 10 years as nobody really knows how long it
will take. But don't expect it to be overnight. And don't forget that FoMoCo
is notorious for getting cold feet and pulling the plug on short notice and
without warning.

I never expected it to be overnight, neither did FPR. I don't actually
expect to see FPR dominate in the way HRT did neither. I do however
expect to see FPR a force up the front in the next year or 2.

Ford won't be pulling the plug on FPR/Prodrive, they have finally
worked out what Holden have known all along and in fact what Ford
essentially introduced to the Aussie market.
