The process of elimination only works if the part you replace does not also
have a fault,.....duh!!

The replacement clapper starter which was supposed to be a recon also had a
fault which duplicted the mis-engagement problem I've been hunting for about
8 months.

The field wire which connects to the breaker set was fractured through its
solder joint )OEM units are spot welded) giving intermittant misengagement
when it decided to not pass current.

Doesn't it sh.t you!  I had the same problem with a clapper, had it
recond and still had the same fault. Got another of the reco bloke and
within a day it smashed its teeth, finally got the starter out of my
old LTD which I had traded for the new one.

Unfuckingbelievable.  To make it worse I had the ring-gear replaced. That'll
learn me to (again) "never trust anything".....no wonder one gets paranoid
sometimes.

Its good they only come out with 2 easy bolts Kieron,...could whistle the
bastards out after a while :-)

Yeah :) I got good at it after a while and without ramps is a bastard
of a job and that thing is bloody heavy.

Try doing a starter motor on an E series engine if you want more fun
JJ :)
