valve stem seals most likley are rooted. alowing oil to drip down in the
combustion chambers when the engines stopped, this will explain the oil
burning on startup

While this condition can be ignored,...occasionally a piece of carbon can
lodge under one of the valves and stuff it. Happened to an XE inlet valve I
saw,...was badly warped.
If the valve-guides happened to get badly worn as well,..the smoke on
start-up can get embarrassing,..for some.
