electrical cut off on 2110 focus se sedan

For the last three years my focus, sometimes has just the electrical (
lights, gages, radio, doors, and windows at different times) shut off.
Which really sucks if I am driving at night. I pull off and wait 10 to 20
minutes then it comes on again. I have seen the dealer six times in the
last two years and every time, they say that there is nothing wrong. What
do I do? I don't want to dish out another 100 dollars for them to tell me
that everything is fine, when it is not. I have a son and I am scared to
drive him in this car.

Well part of the problem may be that you bought the car 109 years before it
was built :<)

But seriously, if they ran the computer for codes and found none, you must
have a poor connection somewhere. I'd start by getting a new battery, or
borrowing one known to be good. Sometimes batteries have loose pieces inside
that cause intermittent internal shorts. I'd also remove the main ground
connections between the battery and the body, clean them, reattach them and
cover with heavy grease. I'd also take apart and clean the main cable
connections and the battery posts and cable attachments.

Really, I would have hoped that any decent dealer would do all those things
before returning the car to you. What exactly do they say, and what did you
ask them to do?

I always tell them that the gages, lights, radio, doors, and windows cut
out at different times, for no apperent reason. They would always say that
the car runs fine and that there is nothing wrong when they test it and if
it acts up again to bring it right back, but I still get charged every
time.

Yes, that's the dilemma that dealers and repair shops always face when you
have these intermittant problems. Without hard facts, they're just guessing.
If it were my car I wouldn't wait for the next time, I'd do the things I
mentioned, or if you're not a do-it-yourselfer, have them done, maybe at a
good electrical repair shop. Eventually they're needed on all cars as they
age.  They've always been the first things I've done whenever I've bought a
used vehicle.

I have a problem like this on a 2000 focus.

Basically the first time it happened I was driving on a motorway an
ALL the following things happend all at once:

-radio switched itself off and needed the code to be re-entered to ge
it to go on again
-all the dash board warning lights go on and off
-the "bong bong" noise which is supposed to tell you you've leaft you
head lights on (when the door is open) sounds, even though your door
are closed
-the cental locks go on and off again and again

Its was happening again and again for about a few months in a
unpredictable way - although it seems more likely in low temperatures
This happens either for a short period of about 5 seconds or for
longer period of about 30 seconds when the car starts to slow down as
result, and even comes to a halt on occasion. . Latterly the car woul
do all this when you tried to start it - and then you had to leave th
car to rest for 5 minutes before trying again.

Scary and annoying.

The RAC man told me it was a battery fault and put in a new battery. I
fact this helped a bit in reducing the severity but the problem remaine
especially when starting the car.

The Ford garage put it through its computer disgnostics and charged m
£100 for "fixing" it, but actually this made no difference - th
problem remained.

Then about a few months ago the problem seems to have gone away for n
reason
