Hi,

My daughter has an X reg 1.6lx focus. With the engine turned off
gears can be engaged but when the engine is started no gears will
engage. Is it a clutch problem. Cheers Ian (hewden)

That sounds like what happened to my '88 Probe when the clutch went out,
reverse was the worst, had to start in reverse to get there, could
force it to first while running and then from there shift up normally.
