It may be a simple fix. Try lubricating the rubber seals around the window
frame with lots of silicone spray. Soak it good.
I had this problem and the guy used an oil based lubricant that worked fine
for about a day. Oil and rubber do not mix.
After a day the rubber got real tacky and dragged on the window to the point
the motor couldn't push it. I was having my windshield replaced and asked
the guy what he thought about it. He talked to the guy that originally
tried to fix it and found out about the oil based lube.
He suggested automotive silicone spray and I haven't had a problem since.

Thanks for the lube tip! I think that I have to determine if there's power
to the motor first.
Does anyone know if there's a trick to getting the interior door skin off
without damaging anything?
Thanks.

Find every screw you can and remove them. Some are hidden behind
little plastic trim covers. Then start prying gently, and it will pop
loose.
I've had both rear door panels off over the last six months and don't
recall anything really special about it, other than finding all the
screws. (Some or all were actually Torx head screws.)
