I have a 1999 Focus and my remote has just stopped working.I didn't
think it was the battery as one minute it was fine and the next,
nothing. I changed the battery anyway but it's made no difference.I can
use the key manually to unlock and stat but I wondered if anybody had
any ideas as to what's happened? I don't have another key either with
or without a remote so this sirt of thing makes me a bit nervous.
Any advice gratefully recei.ved

If you lose/break your only key you will be in big trouble!

Regardless of the non-working remote, you need two keys in order to program
the PATS system for another key. You will need to get a second key cut and
programmed by a dealer or specialist locksmith ASAP.

WRT the remote function, it is sometimes possible to restore function by
realigning the key to the car. If you use Google groups to search this NG
you will find how to do this.

Another option is to buy a key from eBay, then swap the "key" part with
yours.Again, you would need to realign the key.

I have also posted here in the past about my experience with a '99 remote.
Basically, I left the battery out for a month or so, having given up hope
of fixing it. When I then tried a new battery it started working. That was
over a year ago, and it's still OK. Maybe worth a try?

Are you sure it has definitely stopped working? By this I mean, does it
not work everywhere or just in certain places.
I had a friend who was certain his key had stopped working, it was only
months later he discovered his TV remote control transmitter was
stopping the whole street from using the remote car keys.
