HI all, I have a 2003 Centennial Focus Standard and just yesterday had
the something in the hydraulics go south. Does ford have to R&R the
trans/engine to replace the slave cylinder if it is bad??

thanks!

Yes, the slave cylnder is inside the bell housing and required removal othe transaxle. Would you follow this
up with what kind of problems you are having. I also Have a 2003 ZTS that has clutch problems and am very
interested in knowing if your problem is at all similar to mine.

thanks

I see, figures hahahaha.... what is happening is that no matter how
hard I push the pedal the flywheel wont disengage from the transaxle..
Not knowing that it was a hydraulic system, I coulndt figure out what
happened, but when I got it to the ford dealers yesterday, the guy told
me it was hydraulic, as soon as he told me that I knew pretty much what
happened... the only things that can fail are the master cylinder, the
line to the slave clyinder and the slave itself..

I will hopefully find out later today what failed and will post back
with the resolution and the cost...

well at least your problem can be easily verified.

My clutch pedal just gets very stiff/heavy almost like the hydraulic fluid is
semi frozen. It only does this in rather hot.muggy weather and then pretty
much when it damn well pleases and is rather hard to duplicate on demand.
Hence the dealer wont touch it under warranty, because they claim they can't
verify it. Really pisses me off!

A few days before i noticed this, my clutch failed to disenage as well
(twice) withing about 60 seconds and never again sice then. I Ford will never
sell me another call. I can live with knowinf that a car will have problems,
but refusing to find out what is causing it is unacceptable. I see why Ford's
stock price has dwendled to nothing:)

good luck on your problem

Yep, well its safe to say that the problem that you are encountering is
either the slave or master cylinder, thats a lot of crap, have you
tried taking it to another dealer?

thought I would post just incase this is any use to you guys.....

Here in the UK there was a problem with the mk1 focus where the pipe going
into the slave would fracture and loose fluid over time.
