Can any of you experts tell me the pros and cons of the DPF (diesel
particulate filter) please?, other than the one with DPF is more expensive
of course!

DPF will bite you in the wallet when you buy it AND when you give its 75k
service when the filter needs an expensive re-charge and environmental
disposal of the old chemicals.

The fule consumption will be poorer increasing the CO2 output per mile. This
is a bit of a joke if the filter is there on environmental grounds and yet
it leads to greater CO2 emissions and contains noxious chemicals. Check if
this will put the car in a higher taxation class.

In summary - avoid Euro 4 like the plague!

The DPF replacement is at circa 54/72k (most PSA cars) and circa 75k (most
fords) and is *very expensive. For that reason i wouldnt entertain a Euro IV
car until the units come down in price.

VAG have problems particularly (pun intended) with their vans. If not given
a regular thrash, the filter blocks. Sensors detect this and give
a "traffic light" warning which obviously gets ignored!

ATM, once the red stage is reached, filter replacement is required to get it
running again. There are lots of arguments going on as to who pays for
this!
