Hi all
2002 Ford Focus SE Automatic, US model. Problem is driving me crazy.
Starts fine 9 times out of 10 - sometimes though you turn off the engine
and go to restart and it will not turn over. Display lamps do all come
though. If you go back to it the next morning it fires up just fine.
Right now I'm thinking ignition switch - its just had a service and
everything else seems ok. Is the switch likely? and if so is this
something I could attempt myself or should the dealer do it?
Thanks in advance
SH

I'd bet against the solenoid or the starter.

After you've tried to start it and failed, check the temperature of the
battery terminals with your hand (but don't get burnt!!). If one or other is
hot, then you've got a bad connection. It can be good one minute and bad the
next so don't assume that because it worked one moment it always should do.
It may, of course, be the engine earth to the chassis that's dodgy.
