hi
I might be interested in getting a focus probably zx3 sometime in a year or
so. I would like to get a 2.3L PZEV and automatic if i can. I can drive
stick but it really is annoying when i wnat to drink coffee or whatever.
ANyways, my question is this: How reliable is the auto trans on the focus?
my dad used to have 2 taurauses(eighty something and a '91) which both had
the transmission go bad at about 100,000 miles and 4-5yrs. everything was
fixed under warranty but then on the 91 the trans blew at 105k again. I
know that thes taurauses had problems but i am wondering how good the
transmission is on the focus, especially those people with 01s or 02s and
high mileage thanks.

Oh yeah, that brings back fond memories!
I had a '91 Taurus, and, sure enough, its transmission went at about 140,000
kms. That certainly wasn't a cheap repair. $2,300 - WTF!! It seems those
trannies had an aluminium piston, deep inside, which was prone to failure. I
would certainly hope there's no similar component in any other ford
transmissions!

Hi. I have a 2001 Focus with 73,000 miles on it. It's a Wagon, US-built
(Wayne, Michigan). I drive it harder than most people, often shifting it
myself.
I've had the trans fluid changed twice. Anyway, no problems so far. Sometimes
I think the converter is starting to grab a bit more suddenly when starting
than it used to. But she is still fine for going from point A to point B.
