tweaking the computer?

The best £8 you'll ever spend (on the car):

Not a big mod, but I've read several people claim it improves fuel
efficiency as well as performance.
The piece of plastic it replaces seems almost designed to restict the
airflow.
The replacement is a standard Ford part, but only fitted to the 2.0 litre
automatic for some reason. Maybe Ford thought the 2.0 litre manual was fast
enough, wanted to keep it down at group 8 insurance (in the UK), and didn't
want to poach sales from faster models.

What sort of mpg are you getting?
In mixed driving you should be getting 30-35mpg. And around ~28-33 with more
town use.

car used mainly sub-urban ie no traffic queues, probably half/half with
single / dual carriage driving. Tripmeter shows overall 27pmg.
Really trying to find out if the engine computer can be altered, and what
would be the penalty of doing this (eg slower?)
