From time to time the dashboard on my car will act up.   It can be as minor
as the door ajar light coming on, or as major as ever light coming on, all
the dials maxing out then going to zero, and the odometer going blank.
This is often acompanied by the radio cutting out and the car jolting.   I
have taken it to 2 electical specialists who cannot seem to find a
problem.  Once, when driving slowly it caused the car to stall out.   This
has happened when I have been driving anywhere from 10 to 60 mph, with the
radio and without, during the day as well as at night, and in both wet and
dry conditions.  I cannot find a pattern to help pinpoint the issue.
Does anyone have any suggestions for me?    thanks!

You don't give the age and mileage of your vehicle but this can be
symptomatic of a fluctuating low voltage problem, typically caused by an
intermittent short in the battery. You might want to get the battery
checked, or borrow another one and see if the problem goes away. Alternately
it may be time for a battery replacement anyway.

Don't forget to check a Ford dealer for the battery as in my area of PA. they
were cheaper than Sears for the battery. And
at least they know how to install them correctly. Good luck with your Focus -

Does sound like a battery.  My old Jetta did the same thing.  Battery fixed
it.

I'm no doctor, but I'd say it sounds more like MS.

Agree. A lot of people don't realize that batteries are often quite poorly
constructed inside, and parts can come loose and move around, causing
intermittant internal shorts that don't show up on tests in a shop.
Considering that a new battery costs about the same as a couple of  hours of
shop time, it's an obvious next move. Or alternately Kate might borrow a
battery (one that is known to be good) and see if the problem goes away.

Whenever I'm buying a battery I spend a few extra bucks and get a premium
product. Makes all the difference.
