Just  thought I would share  with you all...

Currently  making a cup of  tea  for the RAC man  while  they take out the
new windscreen they  put in last  week and replace it  with another new one
and  hopefully  put everything  back together and  I  will have no more
water in the  passenger foot well...

The reason it  has to come out is the fat that the screen does not work on
the passenger side.

RAC man  says  there is a Ford modification to stop the  water  problem
happening  anyone  had it done ?

Does it  work ?

The pollen filter (cabin filter) cover is on the passenger side at the
bottom of the windscreen. Part of cover is the actual seal with the
bottom of the windscreen (passenger side). If it is fitted back without
care or if it has been broken you will get water into the passenger side
foot-well.

It appears that perhaps RAC man was blaming Ford for his bad
workmanship. A second new screen was probably unnecessary and if it has
cured the problem its because they refitted the pollen filter cover
correctly this time :(

Was the screen replaced in the first place because of the water problem?
If so, the first screen replacement was  probably unnecessary.

Check the newsgroup archive at <http://groups.google.com/> for articles
about 'Pollen Filter and Focus'. Many people seem to get the problem
just after they get the car back from a dealer service. There have been
some 'DIY' suggestions about how to quickly fix the problem such as
placing a piece of flexible plastic sheet (aka the Blue Peter [1]
washing up liquid bottle) over the air intake to the pollen filter.

[1] Blue Peter is a UK children's television program that has been
running for nearly 50 years. Aimed at the 5 to 12 age group, the
presenters show the kids how to make things out of empty washing up
liquid bottles,  the inner cardboard tubes from toilet rolls, old
breakfast cereal boxes and 'sticky back plastic'. Being a program on the
BBC channels which are free from any product advertising all references
to branding is removed from the products that they are recycling - the
Kellogs name will have been painted out etc.

Second that one, a known problem, personally I had no problems
with it, but it's quite common if someone isn't able to fit the
filter probably. Dunno "RAC man", but I'll look for some dealer
with a clue about cars in general and Ford in special.;)

RAC = Royal Automobile Club
It's one of the larger UK roadside insurance  (rescue) services that
have branched up into other car related activities such as windscreen
replacement..

Ah, well. Looks like my advice "look for some dealer
with a clue about cars in general and Ford in special." wouldn't
been that bad, some Ford Dealer should know the problem and might
have suggested a quite cheaper solution, if this is really the
problem.;)

Every service done on my Focus by 2 different Ford dealers has resulted in a
footwell full of water, once I didn't even get off the fourcourt! IMO this
is a design fault with this car and is extremely common.

It may be a design fault in that refitting the cover needs special care
but if you took it to a Ford dealer they would have known about the
problem and should have refitted the cover correctly (or replaced any
broken parts).

I assume that they actually fixed the fault within a few minutes, and
without resorting to placing the windscreen,  after you pointed out the
problem.

If a Ford dealer hasn't replaced a filter cover correctly during a
service what else have they forgotten to do?

IIRC there are special instructions how to remount the filter
from Ford, due to their poor design. Had no problems with mine on
the services done by a small local official Ford Dealer. Looks
like they had no problems reading/implementing those Ford
advisories.

I'd suggest looking for another dealer, if they can't even get
that right, I wouldn't want them working on the brakes or alike.

Back to the RAC  for the third  time this week,  this time I  feel  quite
confident that they  have  sorted  everything, rained  so hard on the  way
home it  must  have  been dome OK for the car not to leak!

They  had to take the  windscreen out as it  was faulty the de-mister did
not  work the contact  had broken off,the RAC man  then discovered that the
cover   for the  filter had  not  been fitted properly and the seal  had
been applied incorrectly...

I await rainy day to see if it all has been a success.

They also managed to brake the  screen taking it out again!
