Hey guys...

Quick question.  I have a 93 Cobra.  The wheels are OEM and have been obsolete forever.  They come up from time-to-time but the prices are stupid. So....

I'm seriously considering getting the 1993 Cobra replica wheels made for the GT/LX and storing mine.  Thing is, the Cobra uses the T-bird axle and it's 3/4" longer per side.  So, Ford used a bigger offset to compensate for this.  40mm vs 26mm for the GT/LX wheels.

Well, the replicas, of course, have the 26mm offset as they are made for the GT.  So... if I put them on my car, they will stick out a bit, about 1/2 to 3/4" per side.

With the wheel well flares, I personally don't think it would look too bad, on the back anyway.  But some people insist it'll look beyond stupid.  That said, there are very few 4-bolt wheels in 17" with the 40mm offset, so I'm kinda in a bind.

I can't find any pics of this set-up.

Finally, one guy told me that even with the smaller off set, the wheel width of 9" on the replica will somehow compensate for the 7.5" inch on the stock wheel and it won't look bad.  I can't get the math on this so I'm not sure I trust him.

So, what do you guys think of getting replica wheels and them potentially sticking out 3/4"?  Gay, or not gay?

Thank you.

3/4" doesn't sound bad but if it's all 4 wheels and caused by the
rims backset instead of overly wide tires I think IMHO it's going to
look a little ghetto. I'd also worry about the tire rubbing the fender.
I would either call and see if they can offer a set that would fit or I
would be more inclined to go with the Weld rims that all the drag racers
were using at the time, if that will work.

inside fender rubbing while turning right or left

There are transition plates, I used to have for a set of racing slicks were
about 1/2 inch, to correct offset some.
Round things with slots in them.
Wider tires look cool.
I thought 16" was stock.
It is hard to see 1/2 inch further out, probably could see an inch out.
2" is getto-gay for sure,  1"  might sorta gay,
Jack the car up take off a tire and move it out to see

You should be able to see how it looks, and return it all if no good, they
may deal that way.

let us know what how it turns out.

Nope, '93 Cobra wheels were 17s.

Hey, that's an excellent idea. I will jack it up just a touch and see how it
looks.

But so far, I guess I have two "gay" votes to zero "not gay".

Thanks guys.
