Here's the story. Last weekend I entered my 73 Mach 1 in a Mustang show
in the 71-73 STOCK class. Out of four in the class that could have
placed one was a no option 73 Mach 1 clone with a 429 stuffed under the
hood, also painted a non-original color. As you can guess this car
placed higher than mine since I didn't place at all. My question is
should this car be allowed in the stock class or should in be in the
modified class? I know i'm being a bit anal here but all the detail work
I put in my car seems to have been a waste of time. Thanks.

Seems like a lot of local car shows have their unique
interpretations of what "stock" actually means.  You need to read the
rule book, and make sure other cars in your class follow the rules -
just like you did.  If you have a question about it, be sure and bring
it up early on in the game.
For now, just chalk it up as a lesson learned.

Yeah your right. All the other cars in the class were stock. There was a
sweet 71 w/ a 429 (real) which took 2nd, a stunning 73 351C 2V Mach 1
(first) and then that "other" car. So much for my Q-code meaning
anything. The thing I don't get is that only people showing cars can
vote you think they would know what their looking at.

That's a lot of the problem. Car shows are more of a popularity contest than
anything else when the contestants vote. Everyone votes for their buddy not
the best car. For example I have a friend with a 4x4  Ranger  with a 302
that he has built for showing. A few years back he went to a show and lost
to an S-10 with rust and miss matched wheels and tires. Of course my friend
was from out of town and the other guy was a local in Chevy country.

The thing I don't get is that is was their first time showing the car!
They never owned a Mustang until about three weeks before the show.

Learned my lesson REAL good about local car shows a couple of years ago. I
entered my '65 Shelby in a show sponsored by a local Mustang club that I am
not a member of. My car finished third, behind cars owned by club members,
one a 66 convert and the other a 66 coupe. It wasn't really a surprise as I
was told by a friend who was a member that that would most likely happen. At
least I had the satisfaction of knowing that my car was worth more than the
combined value of most of the cars in the show.
