Just wondering what everyone is paying for fuel as the year comes to an
end. Today in Buzzards Bay Ma. I paid $1.77 for 87 octane.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!

No need to poll - just go to http://www.gaspricewatch.com or
http://www.gasbuddy.com and find out gas prices anywhere in USA.

$1.99.9 in the SF Bay Area. We're getting screwed, as usual.

Back at 'cha, and to everyone else also.  Hope everyone stays safe.

Just drove from SoFla to NJ/NY area for Christmas and back down.
Lowest gas we saw was $1.579 in NC, highest was over $2 in FL.
Locally here in western Broward County, the lowest I've seen is
$1.799.

NW corner of University and Oakland Park had regular for 1.799
yesterday.  Haven't been by there today though.

So what was wrong with the Focus, and why'd you take it to Beach Ford?

Went by today and it's up to 1.819 there.  Same at the Liberty station
on Commercial between University and Pine Island.

Car started sputtering and stalling out when I was running real low on gas,
at one point the dang thing just stopped in the middle of the road while I
was turning into the parking lot at FIU.  Got blasted for running out of
gas, so I figured I was just dumb and let it get too low.  Then it started
stalling and losing power on steep turns like the on ramp to 95 at Miami
Gardens when I had a 1/4 tank.  Then 5th gear simply fell out and died.  So,
I looked up the problem on line, came to conclusion it was the fuel pump and
took it to Beach Ford since it seemed there was a recall on that problem.
First off, our first service rep got fired, then it took 4 weeks to get my
car back.  After a week they finally looked at the transition (the tech who
knew how to do it had been on vacation), then ordered the part.  Of course,
for a week we only had one car, so that was a headache between my job, last
week of school, and my mother's job, since they would not pay for a rental
until the extended warranty said the work was approved (the transition work
was approved, the PVC pipe was not, but I'll get back to that).  We finally
got a truck for a rental, so I had the Land Yacht and mom had the Dakota.
Everytime we'd call, it was "the part's not in" or "the tech is on
vacation."  Mom and I finally went down there about a week ago and told we
did were not going to pay for that rental (we'd had it over the 5 day limit,
more like 14 days).  Suddenly my car was fixed and waiting for me, they just
had not called yet to tell us.  However, since the PVC pipe wasn't under
warranty, we took that over to the mechanics who handle the vehicles for my
mother's office.  They look at it, the PVC pipe is fine, the fuel pump over
is shot to hell.  So they fixed that to the tune of about 300 bucks, and
that was with a break.  They also told us the clutch is going to go soon, I
just hope that lasts for a bit longer.  So, Beach Ford is evil.  Spawn of
Satan.  Its been added to the list of Ford dealerships we won't go to (Deel,
Gus Muchado, and now Beach)....

oh well... live and learn, eh?  I'll probably be up there sometime tonight
anyway, so I'll fuel up before it gets to fumes...

Whew!  Talk about bad luck.  Reminds me of the runarounds I got at
Sawgrass Ford when the LX was in for a new front end a few years ago.
I'll never go there again.  With all the horror stories I've heard, I
don't think I'd ever go to a dealer in Dade either.

If you're up to it, write a letter to the General Manager of Beach
Ford describing the incident.  Tell him/her that you basically got
taken for a ride by the dealership and you will not only never go
there again, but you'll tell everybody you can to avoid them like the
plague because they're incompetent and untruthful.  You may or may not
get a response, but I'll tell you it felt damn good to write that
letter and send it off.  If nothing else, it's a small bit of
satisfaction.  Just for kicks, cc it to Ford Corporate and show that
on the GM's copy.  Might get their attention a little better.

If you're looking for a reputable Ford dealer, you might try
Plantation Ford.  I've had the LX in there for lots of stuff over the
years and they've done me right every time.  A bit expensive, but you
get what you pay for.  They rebuilt my AOD years ago and it's been
great ever since.

For general stuff, I've been taking the LX and the Shoebox ('96 MPV)
to EF Tire & Auto up in Pompano on Federal.  Heard their commercials a
gazillion times on Zeta when Paul & Ron were on there, so I figured
I'd try them.  No problems at all.  Good work, fast (usually one day,
two days max), resonably priced.  Been going there for a few years
now.

At any rate, I hope the Focus is back to normal and your car troubles
are over for the time being.  When the clutch goes, try EF Tire.
They're decent.  HTH.

87 dropped below $2 for the first time in a long time here in SoCal,
land of the spcially formulated gas that gets into out water tables.

I guess that's special as in "the short school bus" special.

Keep in mind the actual cost of gasoline varies much less than the rate
of taxation on such gasoline from place to place.

About what? 80% of that is gas taxes. That's more than the rest of the
EU where it's, like, 60% or 70%. Taxes are about 30% of the cost in the
USA.

Quit your whimpering, folks..... Here in northern Alberta (living right on

Kate.... your political parties have goofy names and I can't figure out who
stands for what...

Up here we have the Liberals (these are the folks that think you can spend
your way out of debt)...... we have the Conservatives (more to my liking but
sometimes too reserved) and everything in between - including (are you
ready) the Marijuana Party (self explanatory)..... the Green Party (mostly
tree huggers)..... the Rhinocerous Party (a lot of good ideas but they just
like to have fun with it)..... the Communist Party (what they're doing in a
democratic election, I'll never know)....

BTW, the Liberals are those fun folks that are trying to run the national
gun registry so that some day they can call my long guns illegal and take
them away.

FWIW, it's a chilly one here today..... -30ish with a stiff breeze. I'll
probably use about 3 bucks worth just getting to the point where the
transmission will shift decent.

I can see why you're confused. Down here we have the liberals
(Democrats) who believe in paying for government expenditures with
adequate taxes and who ran a surplus in their last administration, and
then we have the (so-called) conservatives (Republicans) who believe
"deficits don't matter" (in the words of VP Cheney), and who are running
record deficits in the current administration.

Jim Warman - 02 Jan 2005 20:04 GMT
Sounds like a mirror image of what we get.... The liberals have been in
(federal) power for much too long.... Taxes go up, they run a defecit budget
(spend more than they get) and we have nothing to show for it (other than
the gay marriage thing.... wow, where do I sign up???). Here in Alberta, our
provincial (Conservative) government has eradicated the provincial debt, run
consecutive surplus budgets and is fighting to save social programs.

What I still can't understand is that (on both sides of the border) we
continue to pay sports figures (read as stick and/or ball types) much more
than we pay those running our respective countries. I imagine that might
have something to do with the difficulty in keeping honest people honest...

Have a happy and safe new year, anyway.

The people who run the US are corporate CEOs, and they make even more
than sports stars.

You gotta drive.  Gas prices are totally out of your control.  Just pay the
man and stop griping about it.  Just put it out of your mind and enjoy life.
Bitching/worrying about it has absolutely no effect.

The ONLY thing you can do is drive a fuel efficient car OR if you choose to
drive a gas guzzler, drive it in a manner that conserves gas.  You have no
other options.
