THE Problem With 5.0 Mustangs

winnard - 19 Jan 2005 04:46 GMT I don't own one, but if I did I'd try to get them to sound better. Rapping one out at 7000 rpm makes them sound like farting into a big Folgers coffee can. How can you make one sound as good as one of those Hemi dump trucks sound? Those sound really good for a Dodge.

If you're going to troll, at least come in informed. And don't crosspost to the college football NG... those guys don't want to hear about 5.0 Mustangs.

Check http://www.MustangExhaust.com/ for some examples. Btw.. I didn't know Fox Mustangs kept making power at 7,000 RPM..

How can you make one sound as good as one of those Hemi > dump trucks sound? Those sound really good for a Dodge. The problem is that you're talking about some frenchified engine. The Litre crap is a dead giveaway. That's why you get that fart sound.
Real engines have numbers like 442 and 383. Good old fashioned American square inches.

You are obviously a moron of the nth degree and no nothing of which you speak. My Dodge Ram 2500HD with a slightly modified 5.7 liter Hemi Magnum has never broken. Erik D. - 19 Jan 2005 23:20 GMT I wish I would pull up to you at a light in my old 165,000 mile stock '94 lightning. It's old, and it has its problems, but the only hemi trucks that even come close have nitrous. I'm not saying anything bad about the Hemi or dodge, just certain HEMI owners who think they are king. Oh, and I've raced about 25 Hemi powered trucks at the track with my old pile and i've only been beaten by one, and he had a 100 shot on top of every other bolt-on imageinable and unbolted exhaust. He had a regular cab, shortbed, 5 speed with the 3.92 axle. He ran a 14.6 at 94 compared to my 14.8 at 91. Basically, it took him 200 extra horses to beat me by .2 seconds and 3 mph. Again, i'm not saying these trucks are bad, they are just not built for drag racing or speed. The lightning on the other hand, was made for speed(sure, its not that fast, but it runs ok for a 4500 lb stock pickup with 165000 miles). The lightning also works very well for towing and hauling as I have used mine to tow a race car on a few occasions and use it all the time for hunting. Mine has never had a valve cover off and the transmission is still going strong as well. When your dodge is 11 years old with 165,000 miles we'll have to line them up at the track. ;) Erik D. We're talking about trucks though, not vipers with a bed. I'm talking about something you put a towing package on without voiding the warranty. But anyway, since you brought it up: They had an SRT10 at my local track not too long ago. I was not impressed at all. It ran 3 times, I don't remember the exact times but I know it was mid-13's at around 105. It got beat by a '99 lightning once, and an '01 lightning another time. The last time it ran it beat a '97 GT, wow. By the way, the '01 that beat it was 100% stock, as was the SRT10. The lightning ran .04 quicker but was just shy of 2 mph slower. I'll admit that its pretty cool looking except for that wing. I'd be willing to bet that from light to light I could at least keep up with it. At the track it made all of its time up past the 1/8 mile mark. Erik D. '94 white lightning '01 white GT
Chris Shea - 20 Jan 2005 03:03 GMT moparman are you serious? i mean if you are a true moparhead you know 440-6, 426 hemi, etc. a-, b-, and e-bodies. old school muscle. these new "hemi's" are just hype and marketing, i see an srt-8 that looks like it will have some muscle, but please.
i put a hurting on all these guys with new hemi trucks who think they got the sh.t. completely obliterated one the other day - at the next light the guy goes "uh, that's a little better than what i'm used to." (i drive an 04 cobra vert, stock pulley, intake and exhaust mods) i guess i shoulda said, "hey that thing got a hemi?"
but you are coming into this group disrespecting ford trucks and mustangs. ("pissant ford owners", "chicken-sh.t mustangs") i have no disrespect to dodge because i used to live eat & breathe mopar (60's and 70's musclecars)
i actually cant wait to run a srt-10 truck, that'll might be a little closer (if he can drive it), but i NEVER see any.

I have nothing against Dodges, and am really brand loyal. I like my Mustangs, and so I spend some time with these fine folks who are always helpful and brutally honest when necessary. All of you who say that "all Mustangs need rebuilt after 100k" and "all Dodges suck" are either just trying to stoke the fire or are truly brand-loyal morons who think they're right and everyone else is wrong. (BTW, DC's track record with things failing isn't anything to brag about either - late '90's caravans were as bad as the Focus) "It's the best because I like it" is the equivalent of holding an apple and saying "This is the best food because I say so." That only works if you're in a cult.
Be blind if you wish.. I could care less, but if you don't like the company here, go home. Nobody's making you post here or read the cross-posts. Or, you could be civil, polite, and hang out. There are a lot of regulars who don't own a Mustang here... it's not a pre-requisite.

Ford stands for F___D OVER REBUILT DODGE! Yeah, you heard me, I must be a damned masochist for owning two of them. Fix Or Repair Daily. Found On Road Dead. Tell me about it. Crusty ol' Rustangs don't just suck, they suck, squeeze, bang and blow. Junk 'em all, they're just GLORIFIED FALCONS ANYWAY. 5.0s? Any car that needs a heater core every other year SUCKS; all 5.0s should be JUNKED for they are inferior to everything else. FIVE-POINT-SLOW!! SLOW!! Don't get me started on weak little SN95s, either. Where's the other half of your motor, 281 cid? WEENIE! Why else would you need 7000 rpm? And the new ones are BUTT-UGLY PILES OF STEAMING CRAP!
As for Dodges, new hemis are SIMPLY LAME MOMMY MOBILES! I rented a Durango, and the thing was just a weak-a.s gas hog. WEAK! The transmission temp light kept coming on as I searched for that awesome hemi power. WEAK! Can't even scratch in AWD? WEEEAAAK! My foot was not the problem. Don't believe the hemi hype. 12 mpg and for WHAT? A stupid "HEMI" badge? GET A LIFE! OH, Dodge put a Viper V10 in a freaking pickup truck, like no one's ever considered something like it in the world. It's just STUPID. I guess you Dodge boys are wannabe Truck Series racers. I hope you all lose your licenses trying to make up for your male deficiencies. And jumping those UGLY-a.s trucks on that STUPID commercial. What GENIUS. Just like the Duster guys. FLOOR IT, MAN! DUH HUH
The Sooners at the Orange Bowl - five turnovers? Man, Southern Cal made you look like a bunch of freakin IDIOTS! No, I take that back, you made yourself look like idiots, because Southern Cal just had DUMB LUCK on their side, and no skill. NONE! Dumb-as-post jocks, what are you going to do with your lives when your glory days end? I'LL TELL YA. YOU'LL BE LIVING ON A STEADY DIET OF GOVERNMENT CHEESE, IN A -VAN- DOWN BY THE RIVER!!!!
Cats rule; dogs drool! AND MY CATS CAN BEAT UP YOUR CATS! HISS!!!! RRROOOWWWWWWWWLL!!! And just try it, dog boy, AND I'll GOUGE YOUR FREAKING EYES OUT!
MEAT IS BLOODY MURDER! You animals what with your disgusting vile poisonous meat-eating habits, do you know how they butcher turkeys? What about veal? HOW CAN YOU LIVE WITH YOURSELVES for eating meat and supporting this terrible industry? YOU ARE MORALLY BANKRUPT. AND YOU SMELL DISGUSTING FROM IT EATING MEAT, EVEN THOUGH I FART ALL DAY LONG.
Scrapbooks record life itself. If you don't understand the value of it, or think it's frivolous and dumb, you are going to wake up one day and regret your memories are forever lost. I pity you fools who don't understand the value of it. IGNORANCE IS NO EXCUSE. AND I'LL GLUE YOUR GOD DAMNED FACE SHUT IF YOU THINK OTHERWISE!!

I'm reasonably sure that the original International Flat Earth Society (a.k.a. the Zetetics), the one that consisted mostly of this weird old coot and his daughter, holed up in the desert near Lancaster, California, is no more. Some other organization expropriated the name for their website but I don't think they have any legitimate claim to it.

I currently own and play a '97 Roadhouse Stratocaster; I've previously owned a '71 Gibson SG Special. I also own a vintage Danelectro and a customized '70s Guild S100. I've played countless Strats, Teles, Les Pauls, ES335s, etc. and they're all great guitars in their own right.
Now if I had the money, I'd go out and get a Paul Reed Smith.

So many missed the point, it just makes me shake my head, again. The troll got it, and played along. Then an OT guitar discussion ensued (shrug).

I thought I might get a chuckle or two. People have a hard time stopping and thinking for 5 sec., and not just reacting. It usually takes a loud noise or a threat to really get people's attention. Reminds me of training dogs, or chasing raccoons off the porch

Wound Up - 23 Jan 2005 22:57 GMT To all of you who didn't understand this post, I will explain it just once. To be respectful, I won't cross-post this thread again. No replies will be given.
It was sardonic humor. http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=sardonic It was a ridiculous portrait of ridiculous Usenet. It was a human, laughing at other humans, and at himself in the process. The newsgroups were incidental. The message was mostly implicit, and I thought it was very clear.
Before you call me "idiot" or "ahole" or whatever else, please re-consider why you would. Loosen up. Stop taking yourselves so seriously. Consider the possibility that a humorous jab does not always have the label "humorous jab" on it. Work on differentiating the real from the contrived, seriousness from sarcasm, and the straightforward from the oblique. Depending upon the degree of your specific deficiency, continued work on these mental exercises may save you from loss of esteem from your peers, unnecessary embarrassment, expense, or even physical harm.
Some truly have none at all, but we all generally have different senses of humor. Some are more sophisticated than to be limited to the common, formulaic punch line or slapstick variety that permeates popular culture.
