I finally figured out what's been bugging me about the back end of
these cars.  See how the black sections in front break up all the body
color nicely? The back needs some of that, between the lights and maybe
something down below.

Not trying to be anti-patriotic, but that ribbon sticker *will*
leave a ghost image in your paint when you remove it down the road. I
still don't understand why people don't just stick them on the glass.

Agreed.  But I have to admit, it looks pretty good in yellow.

Yeah, yellow's a happenin' thing. Very similar to the 1970 D-code
Competition Yellow which my Torino GT is supposed to be.

Good reason. No wonder I get a headache in the Walmart parking lot,
what with the plate in my head. Still leaves a ghost, though. At least
you can move them around.

  You see AMT's Corvair re-issue?

The one I'll never forget was the yellow '93 Mustang 5.0 LX
convertible in the showroom where I bought my LX new.  It was yellow
with a black top & interior and chrome pony rims.  I'd have bought it
but couldn't swing the payments back then.  Had to settle for my
hatch.

Good idea to stay away from magnets when you've got metal inside your
head.

Personally, I'd never put anything on the body of any of my vehicles
that wasn't there in the first place.  Except maybe wax or polish...

No, got a link?  Which model did they do?  1/24 scale?  AMT was my
favorite - much better than Revell.

I had a yellow '05 next to me on the street today. Man, that color
is bright. I'm fairly certain Ford hooked an alternator wire to the
body. Good thing I had my shades on.

I try to practice that, too, but every so often a pedestrian winds
up as my hood ornament.

  This is the current re-issue:

AMT moved to the Orient (big surprise) a few years ago, and since
then they have repopped a lot of stuff, but the boxes are devoid of
details about the kit contents. Kinda strange, considering most of the
tooling is original. These days, Revell appears ahead of the game.

Here's an original Yenko kit you need to have:

Nice kits.  Hard to tell what model the first one is, but it looks
like the standard 110 or maybe the 140.  I noticed that the Yenko's
trunk (hood?) doesn't open though.  Still neat kits.  Now I have to go
down to the hobby shop and see what they have in stock.

Well, think about it. I've never seen them for sale (not that I
look for stuff like that). I've never gone up and picked at someone's
ribbon with my fingernail. I don't pay attention to sticker tech in the

Punching the cash register buttons while your employee installs a car
alarm does not count as "working on a car."  I'm still waiting on your
response to the conclusion that prior to this Torino project of yours
you had not worked on an on-topic car for years.  It's pretty simple:
true or false?

So, now you change the "criteria" in this little farce of yours to
"on-topic car for years". What a f.cking idiot.

And what if I hadn't? Does that make a difference? There is nobody
in this group that has a more varied auto background than I do. Nothing
you can whine about will change that.

Who's whining?  You're the one who's always whining.  "Boohoohoo, no
one believes my bullshit anymore, and it's all 180's fault."  All the
foul language, the evasions, always changing the subject.

I'll tell you why it makes a diffference.  It's because of this whole
on-line "persona" you're always trying to palm off.  All the "I was
there in the day" crap.  The "I'm the one getting greasy."

I already wrote it down once, on March 7 in the "Cobrajet vs.
GT40Patrick" thread.  Here it is, copied and pasted verbatim:

I say the truth is that, about 35 years ago, you dabbled in street
racing for a brief while with a *snicker* 289 Mustang. Probably living
at home with Mommy and Daddy and pretending to go to college.

At some point you dropped out of college and moved to Arizona and
opened a car stereo shop. Along the way you acquired a bunch of '60's
cars, some of which had the ability to move under their own power.
Thanks to your stewardship, none of them do now.

Along the way you ran a few laps at the dragstrip. But you have not
done so for years, possibly decades.

At some point the stereo shop went bust, and you haven't held regular
job since then. This is possible only if you're living on SSI, a
personal injury award, or some other method of sucking on somebody
else's tit.

Now you're nearly 50, living with 20-30 cats in some marginally
habitable hut in the Arizona desert. Oh yeah, and about five months
ago you started an actual automotive project, your first one in years,
possibly decades.

************
So there you go, tough guy.   The truth.  A scared little suburban kid,
pretending to be a badass, a player.  A 48 year old loser all alone in
the middle of a weedpatch strewn with the wreckage of all the cars
you've f**ked up over the years, living in a cinderblock shack with 30
stinking cats crawling all over the place.  Cashing your SSI check  and
sitting on a quarter million bucks worth of cars that will do nothing
but rot until the day you die.  The closest thing to an adult
relationship in your entire life an exchange of email sex with a gay
guy in Alabama masquerading as a woman on the Usenet.

> Having fun in your cubicle today?

You'd be ashamed of mocking those of us who work for a living, if you
had any shame.  Sucking on somebody's tit, and mocking those who work.
Not your most contemptible quality, but it's up there.

This should be *25* years ago.  Little Ricky did not even turn 16 until
1972, 32 years ago.  It was about then that Mommy and Daddy bought him
the Mustang.

Nice try, Limp Rick.  You think you're the ace checker-upper, and you
missed the JFK, RFK, MLK, and Princess Diana assassinations.  9/11,
too.  I'm still surprised no one saw my 'chute as I bailed out over
42nd Street.  I've confessed to all of them,  it's all out there, a
quick Google away, and you missed them all.

To steer the exchange back to reality, all my conclusions about your
past are based on what you yourself have posted -- and HAVEN'T posted
-- in 12,800 newsgroup posts.  That's right, that's the hit count you
get if you Google Groups search for "Author -- Cobrajet."  Almost
13,000 posts, and I have never seen in one of them a  reference to you
(a) having a job, (b) driving anything other than a Honda or a 2-ton
281 ci  taxicab, or (c) working on any project (other than your current
Torino drag car, that it's taken you six months to tear down the
motor).  So what  you're saying is someone who's spent the past six
years baring his soul and every other part in this newsgroup and in
ahpbbfm has  somehow never managed to write about a single current
on-topic experience, even though he was having them daily.  Yeah,
right.

So hang around for another 20 years, Limp Rick.  Lord knows you've got
nothing better to do.  Just spare us the "persona," OK?  Stick with the
facts and everyone will get along just fine.  Sure the facts are
pathetic, but that's OK too.  An unemployed emotionally stunted
middle-aged gas bag with 30 old cars rotting to nothingness because
he's too lazy to do anything with them -- what's not to like?

I'm glad you finally used that word, reality. Let's see if you can
tell us what makes you tick. You came into the BB with deliberate
disruption in mind; spouting off about Shelbys being rice and all that
sh.t. You failed to draw me into the debacle, but your go-around with
Jason proved nothing other than you've adopted the dog-chases-tail
style that Patrick favors so much.

So then you thought you'd take me on over here, and likewise have
been reduced to spouting bullshit that nobody believes or even cares
about. And you play tag-team with your twin Patrick. By now the two of
you should realize that your nonsense will have no effect on what I do
or say.

The most important question materializes: what exactly are you
trying accomplish? This is obviously eating away at your soul, as no
person in his right mind would cop to sitting at work and reading
13,000 posts from another person just so he could skew a bunch of lies.
Do you not realize how people here are viewing you? Is your present
situation *that* frustrating?   At what point, and for what reason, did
I get under your skin?

I know you'll sidestep these questions, but take a moment in your
haze and see how that will look. Think of all the other people who do
not "bare their souls" in a world-wide forum like this. Think of them
laughing over you trying to enforce that concept.

Nah, there's something more to it. This has gone beyond reason, so
answer: what exactly are you trying to accomplish? You too, Patrick.

I already answered that.  Here it is, again, intact from the post you
just replied to:

> > So hang around for another 20 years, Limp Rick.  Lord knows you've got
> > nothing better to do.  Just spare us the "persona," OK?  Stick with the

But this is not about me.  It's about Limp Rick.  So now it's your
turn.  What's the truth about all this "I was there, in the day, I'm
the one working on my cars, getting greasy, I'm the only one in the NG
with a full set of tools" stuff?  It shouldn't take more than a few
minutes to answer.

Here's the framework, from what I've read over the past four years:

You grew up in the San Leandro Valley.  You turned 16 in 1972, the same
year as the last of the real musclecars came out.  You got a 289 '68
Mustang in 1974, the year you graduated high school.  That would have
cost $1500-2000, the equivalent of about 700 hours pay for a high
school kid.  Since you're so lazy, I conclude that Mommy and Daddy paid
for it.

You went to college for awhile but dropped out.  During this same
timeframe you took your Stang to a few street races.  Since a 289 Stang
would have been everybody's bitch, I conclude that you were not much of
an active participant.  Probably posed with your car a lot and shot the
sh.t with the other hangers-on.  Probably went to a drag strip a few
times too.  Probably living at home.  Probably got a job in a car
stereo shop.

So now we're up to the late '70's or early '80's.  The Stang had got a
second 289, but by now that was toast too. Did you ever get it into the
12's?

At some point you moved to Arizona.  You also began picking up the old
heaps, which in #4 condition in this era would have been available dirt
cheap.  At some point you opened your own car stereo shop.  You bought
an '86 232 ci Cougar.  That was your driver until you inherited your
Dad's '82 Accord.  A few years ago that gave way to a '97 281 ci ex-cop
Crown Victoria.

Now you own 30-31 cars, and by your own admission only the CV and a '64
station wagon are running.  Possibly a '70 Torino is running, too.  But
you claim to be turning that one into a race car.  Time will tell, and
progress has been extremely slow, six months and counting.  So the
Torino is sliding into the same pit as the rest of the cars:  sitting
and rotting.  The engine donor '73 Ranger is already there.  And there
it will remain, with all the others. You're one of those a.sholes we
car hobbyists see all the time, the guy that will never sell his cool
old cars and will never work on them either, so they rot.

Finally, in the four years I've been around this NG, I've never seen
one story from you regarding working on, driving, or racing any of your
cars, or working on or racing anybody else's car for that matter.  That
is, until you started the 460 truck motor into the Torino project.  The
amount of posting you've done on that project, compared to the absolute
silence which preceded it, is conclusive that you had no projects
before that.  NoOp Patrick has said it has been the same since you
first showed up in 1996 or 1997.  Not one word about a project car,
working on a car, driving a car, or racing a car.

As for the other stuff, you have written many times about your 20-30
cats.  You have written many times about your "disabilities."  You have
never mentioned working a job. You once described a plan to market car
alarm installs in snowbird RV's.  You very recently mentioned the
possibility of salvaging old car parts for resale.  You have  endless
free time.  I put all this together and conclude that you have not
worked for many years, and that your main support is probably a monthly
SSI disability check.

Finally, here's the very funny stuff about your cyber romance with the
gay guy from Alabama, who posted here as "Emily the Tygress":
http://groups-beta.google.com/group/alt.autos.camaro.firebird/browse_frm/thread/
6b796a76e59c63c3/8068ec6f4dba3b18#8068ec6f4dba3b18

.

So there you go, your life. Limp Rick. 48 years old, diamond in the
rough, brilliant potential, borderline genius, coulda been a contenduh
if you cared enough to try, but you were too good to try. Wrong, Limp
Rick, wrong! Accomplishments show what you are, not daydreams. So where
are the accomplishments?  30 mangy cats, 30 rotting cars, 13,000 Usenet
posts from an obnoxious and childish on-line "persona," and all the
while sucking the tit of a faked up SSI disability. That's the real
you. Time to stop the daydreaming and face the facts.

That's it? Stick to the facts? Your whole crusade is based on all

Oh ba-roth-er. That is just plain pathetic. Go back and re-read your
post and tell me you do not feel pity for a 48 year old loser who can't
do any better than that.

Two updates on my Limp Rick bio. I saw in an old thread that you
actually got a college degree, a B.S. in Political Science.  Your
constant butchery of the English language, your inability to reason,
and your claims of an active gearhead life "in the day," had led me to
conclude that you had dropped out.  But even "C" students can stumble
across the finish line, I guess.

So that means from '74 to '78, maybe longer, you were a full-time
college student.  I guess Dyno Don had to muddle through without you by
his side.

I also read that your '69 Cobra Jet Cougar, one of the '69 Cobra Jet
Fairlanes, and your '67 289 Cougar had been doing their sitting and
rotting in the CALIFORNIA sun, not in Arizona.  This indicates your
pack-rat habit had begun in California, in the mid '70's to early
'80's.  Did you ever drive/race/work on any of these cars? Or did they
go straight to rotting as soon as you towed them home?

You know, I've been noticing that you have this problem with "near

as "Barbara Johnson". Why is that?

Because B.J. is my idol, of course.

More additions to the Limp Rick bio:

"Born in 1956, I grew up in the musclecar/street racing era in the San
Fernando Valley (SoCal). Private Catholic school from K-12. First car,
a '68 Mustang GT/CS, purchased Thursday, August 12, 1973. Still have
it. Started at Cal State Northridge as a psychology major, switching
after 2 years to junior college. My degree is in Administration of
Justice (Police Science). After a brief affiliation with the L.A.
County Sheriff's Department, I decided I was no good at taking orders
and started my own skateboard/roller skate business. When that fad
died, I switched to auto stereos and alarms, the field in which I
stayed up until now. Today I do security systems on RV's and pickups
part time while I work on ideas for an Internet related business."

http://groups-beta.google.com/group/rec.autos.makers.ford.mustang/msg/6245705939
436191

(July 2, 1999)

So you attended a third rate university for two years (1974-1976), and
went backwards from that to a fourth rate community college
(1976-1978).  Then you actually worked for a living for a brief while.
Then you went into the rollerskate biz, I'm guessing along about 1979
or 1980.  When that business went bust you entered the car alarm
"field," where you were still "working" in 1999.  Sounds like the "5 or
6 thousand CARS I've worked on in my life" includes a few thousand
trucks and RV's, doesn't it?  A "near miss," perhaps?

"At 17 in the summer of '73, I had exactly 1300 bucks saved up to buy
my first car. This was a few hundred shy of what the CJ Mach I's were
going for at the time, which is what I really wanted. I had found a '69
383 Road Runner for $1200 that I was ready to get when, that Thursday
in the local Green Sheet paper, there appeared a blue 289 4-spd GT/CS.
. . . The car was dead stock and without a single ding, for $950. It
was much slower than the Road Runner, but I bought it on the spot."

http://groups-beta.google.com/group/rec.autos.makers.ford.mustang/msg/6c56f6df38
a72fdf

(July 3, 1999)

So when facing a choice between (1) saving the "few hundred" to get a
428 ci Mach 1, (2) spending $1,200 of your available $1,300 for a big
block car (albeit a high 14, low 15 second big block car), and (3)
going for a limp dick, mid 15 second 289 Mustang blinged out with an
ineffective spoiler, non-functional brake scoops, and a pair of T-bird
taillights, you chose the bling.  Nothing wrong with that, of course,
but it's not exactly evocative of the nails-for-breakfast hardcore
persona you're always peddling on the Usenet.  Just something to file
away and remember the next time you rag on some "backwards hat wearing
pimple farmer" for his taste in cars.

Then there's this:

"I have a really groovy 1979 picture of me wearing original style
Jordache jeans and leaning on my custom, modded '78 Courier."

http://groups-beta.google.com/group/rec.autos.makers.ford.mustang/msg/6245705939
436191

(July 2, 1999)

I can just see it: Limp Rick, the disco rollerskating, designer jeans
wearing, mini-truck driving king pin of the L.A. street racing scene.

In other words, you started your street racing career with a bone stock
A-code 289 Mustang, swapped in a warmed up 289, grenaded it, then
switched to a mini-truck.  Excuse me, a "custom, modded" mini-truck --
shag carpet, lace patterned graphics, and a cherry bomb muffler?  The
Mopar and Chevy boys must have run for cover when you rolled up in that
rig.

Now this:

"I moved to AZ in 1991, idiot. I was born and raised in the SFV."

http://groups-beta.google.com/group/alt.hi-po.mopars/msg/13afb6c0d65c3d9c
(May 5, 2000)

So the '68 289 Mustang GT/CS, the '69 Cobra Jet Cougar, the '69 Cobra
Jet Fairlanes, the '67 289 Cougar were bought in Cali prior to 1991,
and the rest of your victims were bought in Arizona after 1991?

Finally:

"So, I'll have my fun with the 20 cars I have now and you can have fun
making pictures of airplanes."

http://groups-beta.google.com/group/alt.hi-po.mopars/msg/13afb6c0d65c3d9c

point, doofus?

So tell me, how could you be "having fun" with your 20 cars in May
2000, yet by October 2000 getting "more than a couple" even to move
under their own power "would be a major pain," and four years later, in
September 2004, you have only one of them running?  Another "near

Keep going, Bill. You are my number one fan, aren't you? You keep
making me look better at your own expense (Note the tons of
"corrections" to your earlier "facts"). I love it. BTW, you are missing
a shitload of cars I owned, raced, sold, and brought out from CA to AZ,
but it doesn't matter. Nobody owns that much iron without knowing his
stuff.

You know, I was thinking about what might have happened to you over
recent time. I reviewed some of *your* posts yesterday, and I have to
remark that you are definitely not the same person. ANd not the same
person I talked to personally, huh? What caused you to be so obsessed
with me? Is life so bad now that you need to drag me from my gutter
into your sewer? What are you going to do when you finally realize that
all of this effort on your part results in absolutely nothing?

Poor Bill. You have my sympathies, old boy. Who knows, when you're
done compiling my bio from past posts (saving me a lot of time), I may
fill in the gaps and keep it on my web space. Keep working.

Agreed. That was some pretty rote flame humor there.

Hey, I have some more updates on the Limp Rick bio:

"Anyway, the business season is starting to crank up around here, so
I'll be getting scarce soon. Remember, I have to 'sohc' away some money
here. What sucks about having a 'subterranean' income is that you
cannot qualify for loans, and must buy everything for cash (like I
bought this house). If biz is moderate, I should be able to sohc away
about 10k a month for the next 6 or 7 months, and then see what I want
to do at that point."

http://groups-beta.google.com/group/rec.autos.makers.ford.mustang/msg/a92b484dbd
2e6c82

(Sept 21, 1999)

So it looks like I was wrong about you being a welfare cheat.  Instead
you're a tax cheat.  Actually, it's more likely that you're both.
Clearing $60,000-70,000 per year in "subterranean" income for at least
the past five years.  Owning your home outright, sitting on hundreds of
thousands of dollars worth of collectible cars, and another few ten
thousand in spare parts.  Living on a cash basis to hide it all.  Yeah,
you probably are both a welfare cheat AND a tax cheat.  A thieving
lowlife in two directions at once.

I've also turned up some stuff about street racing a 455 ci Olds 4-4-2.
So you did have a for-real hot rod at one point, and you even street
raced with the big boys.

"In 1978 I went from driving a 12.5 sec 455-powered Olds 4-4-2 (still
got it) every day to a new 2.3 Liter Ford Courier. . . .

". . . In 1986 I sold the Courier and . . .bought a two-tone 86 Cougar
with a 19 sec 3.8 and power everything. It fit my sales rep job and
continued to keep me out of trouble with the law."

http://groups-beta.google.com/group/rec.autos.makers.ford.mustang/msg/1b5ed74006
a5f217

(February 13, 1998)

Here's another one:

"P.S. You're still 6-7 tenths slower than my old daily driver Mustang.
Less typing, more wrenching!

"P.P.S. My D.D. after the Mustang was a 12.7 second 455-powered 4-4-2.
Isn't that just an Olds Chevelle?"

> riored97cobra#301
> 13.88 @ 102.5

http://groups-beta.google.com/group/alt.autos.camaro.firebird/msg/885510a6590b4a38
(April 25, 1998)

So the 4-4-2 was either a 12.5 or a 12.7 second car, depending on which
collection of gray cells are on duty on any given day.  The bit about
the 289 Mustang being 6 to 7 tenths quicker than 13.88 (i.e.,
13.18-13.28), I don't know about that one.  It's possible, but sounds
more like some latter-day revisionist bench racing to me.  And we all
know how much you hate that kind of stuff, don't we?

But anyway, you really WERE a legit street racer -- 25 YEARS AGO!

One last thing, before I exit this conversation.  It's not about what
you know, it's about the doing.  This whole thing started when someone
posted that you were the do-er and NoOp Patrick was the dreamer.  I
posted a list of both your cars, and the fact that within recent memory
NoOp Patrick has spent more time actually working on his cars and
racing them than you have; that in fact you're a lazy liar who's
letting his old iron sit and rot while living off the memories from 20
to 30 years ago.  I can pile on the evidence over and over, but them's
the facts.  It's that simple.  You've got the knowledge, but the doing
is all in the past.  That's all.  Not a big deal, not particularly
complicated. Any questions?

In closing, "Less typing, more wrenching!"

concerned with your own mental stability. All you proved is that you

I know enough.  No car projects for 10 or 15 years, maybe more.
Destructive hoarder and destroyer of the cars he professes to love.
Deceiver of others regarding the extent of his actual car building and
racing activities.  Eccentric, physically decrepit, alcoholic hermit

Admitted tax cheat of felonious proportions.  Probable welfare cheat.

Wow, was there a ceremony like at the beginning of "Branded," where the
C.O. stripped off Chuck Conners' insignia and broke his sword in half.
Cool!  I wish I'd got advance notice.

"Branded.
Scorned as the one who ran.
What do you do when you're branded,

Well in my case I'll actually work on my old cars and actually drive
them and from time to time I'll think of Limp Rick with his glass of
Jack and his kitty-cats and his excuses for why it's OK for his old
cars to rot through another desert summer.

Sad, sad, sad.  So now you re-define a word and I'm a dipshit because I
didn't know your private definition.

I'd say you're the one who doesn't know much. But that's because you
haven't worked on any of your old heaps for 20 years.  If you ever were
to get busy with one of them you will find out that a lot can change in
20 years.  Everywhere there's a water leak there's rust.  All that
weatherstripping that isn't rotten but whatever it is, that's beem
letting rainwater into the doors and rear quarters, all the water
coming into the cowl and collecting in the rockers or getting onto the
floorpans through rusted out ventilation intakes, all the water going
into trunks through backlight seals that aren't rotten but whatever
they are, and weatherstripping that isn't rotten but whatever it is
--you've got rust in all these places.

And just what word are the rest of us supposed to use from now on to
describe 35-40 year old weatherstrip that's cracked, dried up, missing,
and otherwise not sealing, now that we know that only dipshits call it
"rotten"?

Limp Rick thinks that Barbara Johnson is you're pseudonym, since of
course you're terrified of confronting Limp Rick under your own name.

I know this is dead horse beating, buy that's one of THE most pathetic

There are a few free programs out there that would be perfect for this. I
can recommend "Ping Plotter" (freeware - you don't even have to pay for it).
In fact, I highly recommend it to anyone who would confuse me with someone

Yes, it is, 'cuz you get to do sh.t like this:

Oww, my sides! That's got to be THE funniest thing that's been written
here
in all my years of reading ramfm. Ohmigod.

Thanks, Babs, for starting my day with a bang. Here's hoping that you
stick
around for a loooong time to share many more of these fascinating and
pithy
barbs.

  dwight

Recognize that? Sure you do. It's you giving a personal endorsement
just last Sept to someone you claimed not to recognize. An endorsement
that amounts to an invitation to mix it up. A compliment for a lame
flame that is most certainly NOT the funniest thing anyone has ever
read in RAMFM, by far. An invitation that is FAR out of "character" for
you, to someone whose first couple posts were nice and normal, and then
when on a rant designed to draw attention. A rant hot on the heels of
me skewering that dimwit who bought used springs for the cost of new
ones up in Canada.

You've been a lot of things in this group. Innocent is not one of
them.

Okay, SenileJet, you're going to have to take me by the hand and lead me to
it. I can't find anything on any Barbara Johnson in either RAMFM or
AH-PBBFsinkin'M.

Thanks, Joe. I see where CobraBoy got confused. We both use Comcast.

But I took it another step. Barbara's IP traces back to Bayville, NJ, while
mine, of course, comes through a SE Pennsylvania portal.

Yeah, I think it's time for ol' Rick to start "checking headers."

Wow, Comcast is taking over the world.  They've got a monopoly on the
cable down here, and now their Internet's up to something like 4 or
5mb downstream.

Bayville's down the NJ shore on the way to A.C.

Thanks for the ghost image tip. The sticker is gone!

Most of the fish are rockfish from the Chesapeake Bay. Also called Striped Bass,
or 'stripers'.

See now, back in the day this would have been funny, as the above
fish I mentioned were all other American cars that a Mustang owner
might have gone trolling on asphalt for. Oh, how people have forgotten!

Who made a 'Marlin'?

The 'cuda and 'ray, OK. But damn if I can recall a Marlin. 'Course, I'm getting
pretty old. That may have something to do with my memory.

Hell, they're _Ramblers_.  But here's a very cool Rambler - the '69

My grandfather had one of these with the push button auto trans. It was
supposed to be mine, but my mother saw fit to send it to auction when he
died. DAMMIT!!!

Lucky you, you can still have a "new" '59 Rambler:

Neat.  Speaking of push-button trannies, IIRC my Dad's '57 Merc had
one.  Wish I had that thing now...

Cool.  That's the 'A' paint scheme.  Ever see the 'B' scheme?  It's
got the stripes on the lower part of the body down by the rocker
panels.  BTW, I noticed that model is a Jo-Hann.  Definitely below the
quality of the AMT kits back in the day, but they get extra points
just for having an S/C.

That company was recently revived, but the new owners are severe
Thumpers. Hence, I do not buy any of the re-issues. But I do have
several of the originals, including a Marlin and the '70 Rebel Machine.

Neat pic on their page - the Chrysler Turbine IIRC.  Now the Rebel
Machine wasn't too shabby in its day, even though it should've been
made earlier than '70.  Mid 14s in the 1/4 off the showroom floor:

http://clubs.hemmings.com/clubsites/classicamx/RebMachArticle/RebMachineArticle.html

That link also claims that contrary to popular belief, the '64 GTO
wasn't the first muscle car - that title is credited to the '57
Rambler Rebel with a Nash 327 V8.  Interesting.

I tend to attribute that title to the '57 F-code Fairlane. A 312
with a blower would certainly outrun the Rebel.

Very cool.  I had no idea that a blown 312 existed back then.
"Horsepower galore for checkered flag performance!", "...surging 300
horsepower!"  Fabulous marketing back then.

BTW, I love the pix of the guys in white coats checking the engines.
