Considering buying a 92 GT Convertible.  Had a 96 GT convertible that I
liked pretty well.  Any gotchas that I need to be aware of with the 92
model year.  This one is a 5.0 with an AOD.

Thanks for any feedback....

Try and find out maintanence/repair history. Check (or have checked) the
usual mechanical items. These are good, fun cars with no glaring
"gotchas." As with any 13 year old used car, there are going to
eventually be issues. Check back here for more help. In stock form, this
one will probably be more fun than your 96.

Thanks Claud.  I talked with the owner.  This is a 2 owner car.  Second
owner has only had it one year.  He says it is all stock. No leaks, no
smoke, new top.  Pictures look pretty good.  My issue is this car is
offered on Ebay and I am unable to see it or drive it.  That is what is
making me extra cautious.

Thanks for the feedback.

Watch out for the AOD if it's original.  A 13-year old AOD probably
won't last too much longer unless you baby it.

And who's gonna baby a 302-equipped Mustang ;). Gotta love 'em.

My point exactly.  If it's original, that tranny's on the way out.

You'll want to look for the VIN stickers on the various body panels.
That will tell you if there has likely been a repaint or potentially
body damage done to the car.

There should be stickers on the underside of the hood, inner portion of
each front fender (viewed with the hood open, in the area where the hood
seals), front nose cap (viewed with hood open), under side of each door
(viewed with door open), and underside of trunk lid.  It's been several
years since I had a Mustang, so those are all the places I can think of
off-hand.

You'll look for a sticker with the VIN on it, in each of these places.
If you find that it has been either painted over or the sticker has
something like "Ford DOT," then you may want to ask more questions about
the car.

When repainting, most shops will just paint over the sticker.  At best,
they may mask it off.  If the entire body panel has been replaced, the
replacement panels have the "DOT" sticker.
