hi everyone i am a owner of a 96 mustang gt....i have just put
flowmaster exhaust cans on the car with the stock tailpips. It only
really sounds good at about 2000 rpm an then i cant even hear it...
kinda disapointing if u ask me, well i need help on how 2 wake up my
4.6 so u can hear it 5 miles away any suggestions?
SVTKate - 12 Apr 2005 04:08 GMT
Yea.. sell it.

You are too stupid to know that you will annoy the hell out of everyone
within that five mile radius and leave yourself as a target for every
patrolman that wants to write a dumbass like yourself a ticket.

Sound harsh?
Try living next door to the moron that has the pipes that can be heard "for
a five mile radius"

A car can sound great without being loud enough to be obnoxious. You wanna
hear a sweet sounding car? BlueStang98 has one that will make your dick drop
in the dirt. Nothing special really to look at - like a normal car - but
when he turns the key, it turns heads. Runs like a rabbid assed ape too.
it's tasteful, and audible.

Go buy a Honda, drop it in the dirt, add a chicken wing to the deck lid that
has at least a three foot lift and put a fart can muffler on it with lots of
"make it go fast yellow" stickers and plug in some rap music and you will be
in great shape.

Keep the cats & ditch the mufflers instead.

The drone will, however, drive you nuts in quick time.

My '73 Mustang (factory 302/4bbl.) has no mufflers, no cats, no H-pipe,
just straight pipes out the back.  The neighbors hate me between 9:00pm
& 9:00am, and pretty much all day too...  even a hate call now & then
when we fire it up... but it sure sounds great with a 5000 rpm WOT run-by!

so run straight pipes from the heads back? but wont i lose power
because there will be no back pressure?

You're a f.cking idiot.

Please, just hand over the car to me.

Or here's an idea....put on a Y-Pipe, and I'll give you the exhaust
can from my bike. I took the aftermarket exhaust off that the previous
a.shole had on it, because it was just obnoxious. And replaced it with
nice, quiet, stock exhaust. I can actually hear traffic around me now,
its great.

But it really sounds like you and my old exhaust can would get along
great! Both of them are obnoxious.

I can tell you what crawled up my a.s and died. Another asshat that
decided I need to hear his exhaust 5 miles away in the morning when
I'm trying to sleep. Some asshat that every time he starts his car, I
hear it, if I want to or not.

Anyone who wants their exhaust be heard for a 5 mile radius...
Anyone who considers just straight pipes out the back on a STREET
car...

is as far as I'm concerned, a total f.cking moron.

But that's just me...

You are entitled to your own opinion, and yours may vary.

Ok, but you can stop being a fuckin j.rkoff about it & go about it a
different way other than calling somebody (blatantly) "You're a f.cking
idiot." Hell, you know what I have to say to that? You're a f.cking a.shole.

I agree, too loud is just annoying.. but I've heard some exhausts that were
loud that I *liked* hearing. You will never please everybody.. and some ppl
are so fuckin sensitive that you will always piss them off... so I guess you
gotta do what makes YOU happy.. and in this case, rburdick@mcihispeed.net
(R) wants a bit louder of an exhaust. All he has are a couple Flowmaster
mufflers. That is FAR from too loud. Even with an offroad H-pipe.. it's FAR
from too loud (because I can't hear my neighbors car until he gets RIGHT in
his parking spot and it's a 93 SVT Cobra... and my other neighbor happens to
drive a 98 Mustang GT w/ 2 Flowmaster mufflers and an O/R H-pipe and again..
I can't hear it until he gets right next to my place).

What I think is, you just felt like bitching because Kate did. I think Kate
was a little too harsh, but she put some fuckin humor in it. You flat out
ran your mouth & called the guy a "fuckin idiot". Ppl like that piss me off.
Welcome to my kill file.

Yup, I was harsh and I'm not taking it back.

However I can honestly say that I do NOT believe that Stephen went off just
because I did. He is perfectly capable of blowing his own fuse over what was
initially an asinine post from what appeared to be a moron. Stephen has
proven that before in threads that I had no part in.

Sometimes I am harsh -BUT-  what I did get with my response was a guy (our
fearless poster "R") that came back with a more reasonable explanation of
what he was wanting to do.
If he had been a common troll... the results would have been predictable.

Personally, I like a car to have some exhaust. Now that I live out in the
boonies folks with excessive pipes are not a problem but when I lived in the
city it was a pain in the a.s.

So, "R" do some research. You can go to different web sites and find sound
clips for different exhaust combinations that may help you make a decision.
LISTEN to different cars to see what you like and then as the people what
they have on their car.
Keep in mind a few simple truths.

Excessively loud cars draw unwanted attention. Be it law enforcement,
vandals or the guy that is road raging or the neighbor that alienate.
If you destroy your emissions system for the sake of more sound, you WILL
pay the price eventually.
If you go crazy, your hearing WILL suffer. You may not notice it now, but
wait till you are in your mid 40s and you have trouble hearing.
And it WILL get worse.

So, think about it. DO the research and make a wise decision.

Mike and Stephen... c'mon guys... calm down.

I'm with Kate on this.
And while we are talking about people being insensitive (or just plain
stupid), let's also talk about fog lights.
Just because you *have* foglights, doesn't mean you need to use them when
the weather is clear and your normal driving lights will do fine.
You can do other things to "look cool" that do not annoy and distract those
around you.
And finally, back to sound, WTF is it with bass thumping so hard I can hear
it a block away in MY car with my windows up and my own stereo on? Admit it
that when you turn your stereo up that loud, it doesn't sound good to you
until you have lost half your hearing.
The only people you will impress with loudness (audible & visual) are other
dorks like yourself who have no taste, sensitivity, or intelligence. "Look
at me, I'm a big dork who needs attention," is what most people think of
your cheesy/annoying display.
How many people smart enough to afford $40,000+ cars do you see driving
around with foglights on in clear weather, loud mufflers, and thumping bass?
And how many do you see doing all of the above in cheaper cars? Getting a
clue yet?

Go with an H-pipe that has 2 high-flow catalytic converters... which goes to
2 Flowmaster 40 series mufflers.. and no tail pipes or tail pipes.
Whichever. More tasteful with tail pipes, louder w/out (but still sounds
good).

But don't get so loud that you piss ppl off... or you might find slashed
tires or scraped off paint (yes, ppl can be dicks).

I just took off the cats of the stock H-pipe put MIL eliminators and saved
some $$. with 40 series mufflers it sounds really loud enough.

How did you take off the cats? Just weld/clamp in other pipe where the cats
were?

Yup, just as you said, but the front two were hard to take off, so I just
"emptyed" them so they are still there with nothing inside. it sounds the
same as I spent $$$ on aftermarket stuff.
memset@recorddeal.com - 12 Apr 2005 21:35 GMT
Why didn't ya pull the entire H-pipe & use a recip. saw to cut 'em out? Or
even an angle grinder w/ a cutting wheel... then grind it down. I'd use a
recip. saw & a few blades.

I'm shopping around for an H-pipe with 2 high-flow cats. I have a Steeda
adjustable clutch cable on the way.. should arrive tomorrow or day after.
Mine snapped :(.

Get out your CHECK BOOK!!!
More noise equals more tickets!  Period!

That doesn't even touch on the irreversible "permanent" low tone hearing
loss...

Here's what contibutes to my car's exhaust note that Kate's so fond
of:

98 GT w/ 2000 heads
FRPP coated shorty headers
Bassani Stainless Steel Offroad X
Bassani Stainless Steel Cat-Back w/baffles

Generally speaking, most people prefer the sound of straight-through
type mufflers with X-pipes (particularly Offroad X-pipes) while
chambered mufflers tend to be more pleasing with H-pipes.  Often when
you mix these this formula incorrectly the result is a wicked drone
around 2000 rpm's that'll rattle your teeth outta your head.

Unfortunately the exact model of Bassani X that I have isn't available
as a 1-piece part anymore, they did a slight re-design to make
shipping more affordable.  Still great stuff though and I wouldn't
hesitate to recommend it.  If I had to do it all over again I'd take a
hard look at the Magnaflow stuff...  same stainless steel construction
at a little more reasonable price.

Why did you waste money on mufflers if you wanted your car to be that loud?

Tube headers will add a lot of noise.  Also get the largest diameter
pipes and cats you can find.  Flowmaster 40's are widely acknowledged
as about the loudest thing out there, but they also make a race car
muffler that is even louder.  H-pipes and X-pipes decrease the noise,
so stay away from those.  An unsilenced air cleaner can add induction
howl.   Removing sound insulation will make your car a lot louder from
the driver's seat.  So will solid motor mounts.

I do think however we should all find some good hearing aid companies
to invest in and buy stocks. I have this feeling that in 10 years from
now when all the...how should I put this without hurting poor mike's
feelings...intellectually challenged? There, I tried to be polite

hearing from obnoxious exhaust systems or stereo systems, we'll be
