The OTHER half... This is rumor through a friend of a friend of a friend who
heard it from his aunt's neighbors nephews brother, but they laid off the
lightning guys, not the cobra/gt500 guys.

Wonder what part of Ford's sales is made up of SVT type vehicles? And, what
does this mean for the new Cobra Mustang?

Cobras will still be getting made. In fact, I already have an order in for
one through my local svt dealer. Dunno about the sales breakup, but i doubt
svt makes up alot of sales.

How does one order a car without a price even set?
japhar81 - 02 May 2005 20:10 GMT
Easy,
I agreed to pay $15k over sticker, and gave them $15k.

Disgusting! You must too filthy rich. :)
japhar81 - 02 May 2005 20:28 GMT
Actually, I've been saving up for the cobra since like '92. And I emptied my
piggy bank to give them the downpayment.

Now I gotta save up enough to actually pay for/put enough down to finance
the sticker price:) While still maintaining my '05.

I just don't understand this sort of behavior. Then again I never understood why
people had to be the first on the block or whatever and pay huge premiums. I
suppose this is what makes dealers think a mustang cobra is like a ferrari or
something that can't be touched, let alone test driven.

If enough people do this, I won't be buying one. I am not going to put with the
carry over from the 6 cylinder base car and pay 55 grand.
japhar81 - 03 May 2005 03:28 GMT
THats the problem. There are a total of 3 dealers in this state that sell
SVTs and are fully authorized to maintain them. Two are owned by an a.shole
I refuse to deal with. That leaves one dealer, who's estimating getting 10
cobras.

Between the owner, and his family, 7 are already spoken for. And since this
particular car has been a wet dream of mine since I saw concept drawings
years ago, and well, rational or not, I just had to have it.

So ford is still doing this crap. Made to order is a lie then. Still
rationed out for people bid on the few that don't go to connected people.

If true I won't be buying a cobra, and since that's the only level of
mustang I'll consider, unless I there is a saleen for similiar value
sticker to sticker, my next car won't be a ford.

Yeah, I hear that! I simply _had_ to get my '03 Cobra right of the bat, and
paid list. Friends of mine, who had the patience to wait, paid between 6-10k
$ less. Six grand buys some nice mods.  :)

As much as I want that next Cobra, I'll wait it out this time. Paying list
is bad, more than list...no thanks.

Possibly, but if the production really is to be 4500 units, I anticipate it
will be sitting in my garage before winter.

"build to order", "prepack". Sorry I'm not is the business. What do these
terms mean.

Howard
japhar81 - 05 May 2005 13:40 GMT
Supposedly, Ford will be doing two runs of cobras. What I call prepack is
like the GT, this is the list of upgrades you get, and thats what you get.

The built-to-order, youre supposed to be able to pick and choose your
options, i.e. blower or not, myColor or not, etc. etc.

This is the first I have heard of a build to order option for the Cobra
expanding the customizable option list which was previously limited t
color, wheels, and spoiler or not. Could you provide additiona
information?

I asked my local dealer about this, and he said "impossible." Please, scan a copy of
your order so I can finally expose this guy for the liar he is.
japhar81 - 06 May 2005 13:22 GMT
Sure. ITs only got my name, social security number, address, phone number,
and bank account number on it.

Ill get RIGHT on posting that for you there carl. Stop trying to troll. Or
at least do a better job of it.

Hmmm... I don't think I've ever had a sales receipt from an auto dealer that
displayed (or even needed) my SSN. Besides, you could always obscure your
personal information, like you did with your license plate:

http://www.hzdev.net/gallery/images/Mustang_NewWheels%20004.jpg
http://www.hzdev.net/gallery/images/Mustang_NewWheels%20008.jpg

Nevertheless, I can understand why one would be hesitant to post a sales
order. Please give me the number of your dealer, so I just telephone
him myself. I'm considering a down payment myself, but can't find a
local dealer willing to take one.

Thanks in advance.

Every 'sales contract' I've seen from an automobile dealership asked
for the SS # of the buyer.....  YMMV of course.

Hi Joe .  :)   Doing fine.   Got a new 2004 Mach1 a year ago and have
been busy getting it chipped, tuned, and then cruising....

Also away a lot on business this past year.

How are you and yours?

Very well, thanks.  We're hanging in there, one day at at time.  You
know the routine.

So I've got to hear about the Mach.  How's Mike doing?  Does he still
have the Fox?  Shoot me an e-mail if you get a minute.

A "sales contact" and a "sales receipt" are two completely
different things. But as you said, YMMV.

The truth is, I think japhar was lying when he said he put a
down payment on the next Cobra, and I'm trying to give him
every opportunity to prove me wrong.

I've never gotten a "sales receipt".  Do you mean just a receipt of
funds such as a deposit put down?  If so then I understand your point
now.  :)

Again, bingo.

Yup. Couldnt possibly be that unlike you, I have a job, and may have to
travel occasionally.

In any case, my life doesnt really revolve around people believing me
