I recently purchased a 1968 fastback and I was wondering if anyone knew
a place that sold OEM parts instead of going through ford. I know some
places out there have stocked them but I just do not know where. Parts
as in exterior body parts, fenders, doors, trunklids, quarters, etc.
thanks

Going through Ford??? FoMoCo may still sell a few items for that
particular car, but most items of that era have LONG been discontinued,
even for a '68 Mustang.
Look on ebay, your area newspapers or find your parts on Google or
other search engines. I'm sorry to tell you to look in places that you
probably already have, but Ford will be of little help.

You're not going to get them from Ford, that's for sure.  The last stocks
were sold to vendors several years ago.  Some are still available through
vendors like NPD, Virginia Classic Mustang, etc.  Other than that, search
eBay and auto magazines and be prepared to pay a LOT for sheet metal, if you
can find it.  You're better off to look for good used metal from parts cars.
That's a lot easier to find.

Some producers are using the original ford dies to make some of the
parts you seek. Some of the catalogs are identifying the ooriginal
different from the newly made, as well as original dies vs imports.

Sounds like a job for JC Whitney.

Well don't forget the bulldog that will pee on the car next to you at
the touch of a button, or the sound box that gives your horn 100
different musical possibilities. LOL : ) JCW carries some decent stuff
and some trash. Which is an improvement over years ago when it was
nearly all trash. Unfortunately, those who remember the old JCW still
make fun of them.

Just about any of the primary vendors would supply good
materials/parts. I like CJ Pony Parts, but there are also quite a few
others, from the Mustangs Plus, National Parts Deport, Dallas Mustang
size organizations, to smaller local vendors, like Sacramento Mustang.
The majority get their parts from many of the same manufacturers. So
it comes down to weighing the price plus S&H and any state tax between
vendors. Here in California where the tax is 7.75%, I often buy out of
state, because even with S&H I can beat California prices. (It costs
more for a business to operate in California than in most other
places... which is why so many businesses have left the state.) So, I
say it can pay to shop around.
