I'm hearing a rattle when I go over bumps... kind of like some suspension
piece is loose.
Seems to be coming from underneath the car.
Cursory exam shows nothing loose.
Any ideas how/what to check for?
Thanks!

Changed brake pads recently? If so, you/whoever might have forgotten to put
the anti-rattle clips back onto the brake pads.

It's those $2 bolts in your deck lid.

Scott, I may be WAY off here, but just for sh.ts and giggles...
check your rear license plate.
Open your deck lid, and then slam it shut?

Mine used to rattle when I had a certain type of frame on it, drove me huts
trying to find the noise.

Good idea!
I checked and both plates are solid/tight :(
I wish it had been that.

Nothing loose in the spare tire well? Rattles can originate.from many
places.

Rear swap bar cracked/broken? I understand these are notorious for
breaking right where they attach to the rear control arms. I had the
same thing on my 1997 Cobra last year, and it was a cracked rear sway
bar that finally broke. It started as rattle over bumps and got
progressively worse until the bar broke.

There was no damn "rattle" for me. It plain 'ol broke... and then smacked
the ground on every bump.. and busted off completely before I even could
pull over. I went to a salvage yard & pulled one off a 1995 Mustang GT & the
problem has never come back.

Mine was banging on the undercarriage on my '97 Cobra after it snapped.  I
replaced it with an '83 GT's bar with 160k on the clock... still no
problems.  Not as stiff, but it's not broken.  ;-)

As you can see.. there are many things it could be. What were the last
couple things you've done to the car?

Yeah... I'm betting it is one of those things you all listed.
Thanks!
I haven't done anything to brakes, exhaust, or suspension.
I'm going to take it to my favorite/trusted mechanic for a tune-up soon
anyway.
At that time I'll ask him to check it out.

Exhaust system on my squeaks a bit going over bumps... joint where the
catback bolts up on the passenger side. It will be solved when I replace
it as the muflers are going anyway.
Cobra Boy - 20 May 2005 14:39 GMT
I had the same problem with my '97 cobra it was the brakes as mike said.
