Defiant - 28 May 2005 00:34 GMT Well I finally bought a 01 GT Convertible today, firemist red, leather, mach sound, alloy wheels, cold air kit, flowmasters, Auto ( don't really care for that but oh well to late now) nice car, got it for $13,300 it has only one problem, the left rear vent window doesn't work all the time I know how to change the motor it's just getting the panel off without tearing something up it may take some doing. is there anything special I need to know before I try remove the panel? Hidden screws, snaps under something, removal of speaker covers? oh anyone know what a gorilla chipz is? found it stashed under the toneu cover in the trunk.

SVTKate - 28 May 2005 03:26 GMT Hey! Congrats!
If the window works PART of the time try taking the switchout and giving it a good cleaning on the contacts. It might have goo in it or something..

Defiant - 28 May 2005 06:31 GMT thanks, that's what I thought at first but this one work only intermittently, like this evening right after we got it I tried it for atleast 20 minutes and no go, came home tonight about midnight works just fine now but tomorrow I'll bet you money it's dead. I will try the switch first but I'm almost sure it's a motor.
Wish it was Cobra but I really couldn't stand the Insurance right now and this one runs really well so maybe it will do for a couple of years and maybe I can get some other bills paid off and get me a 03 or 04 Cobra. Defiant

SVTKate - 28 May 2005 12:07 GMT Hey, the important thing is you got one that you like Don't think "Oh man, it's not a Cobra" and all that ]Hell, those of us with Cobras STILL have cars come along every day that make ours look like sh.t, so what the hell!
Like computers, it may have been new while it was on the assembly line, but by the time it gets to your front door it's obsolete LOL
As far as that motor, ping Musttanguy. Tim's a pretty good source for parts

I've fiddle with some of them and have been absolutely sure they were clean and functioning and tested them with a meter and still they acted up. A new switch cured my problems as often as a new motor did.

SVTKate - 28 May 2005 12:10 GMT Can you not just bypass the switch to check the motor?

Ashton Crusher - 29 May 2005 19:58 GMT >Can you not just bypass the switch to check the motor? In order to make the motor go up and down AND in order to have two switches (drivers door and the other door) the switches have to be double pole double throw. It creates a lot of wires running back and forth across the car. If you can get to the right wires and know the color codes you probably could. But it's a lot easier to get to the switch usually then it is to pull the door apart to get to the motor wires. With a new non-master switch only about $13 it's sometimes the easiest first diagnostic. Or if you can borrow a switch just to try it.

Defiant - 30 May 2005 05:04 GMT yeah that was my thoughts as well, this motor is only controlled by the drivers door switch only though and I can tell you from my old Stang that even if the switch looks new and you can clean the hell out of it and it still may or may not work. but I have a buddy who works at the local Ford dealership and may hit him up to borrow a switch real quick before I tear into the Back panel. found out one thing more this weekend, my car doesn't leak I have been gone all weekend one a 4 wheeler ride and just got in. it rained all weekend long sometimes very hard here. went out to the car tonight after I got home and the car is bone dry even in the trunk. couldn't say that in my old car, trunk leaked like a sieve. side windows weren't that good either. SVTKate - 30 May 2005 12:40 GMT The only time mine leaks is when I go through a car wash, soooo I don't go through them LOL

Ken Zwyers - 31 May 2005 04:11 GMT For whatever it's worth, I have an '00 GT Convertible, and, for the most part, I don't have a problem with leakage in car washes. It definitely leaks if I go through one of the brushless car washes, where water is power-sprayed at the car from all angles. However, when I go to one of the soft-cloth washes, where they have people cleaning the inside and drying the car afterwards, there's no leakage.

Cobra Boy - 30 May 2005 17:30 GMT Why can't he just put a jumper on the wires needed to go up or down right at the switch? Just a question not trying to be smart or anything , lord know noone ever accused me of being smart before, but i'm an electrician and just with a jumper cross over the switch at the switch and that would eliminate the swicth. excobra boy

Maybe it has something to do with all the extra circuits.....????

the switch simply swithces power + or - to the two wiresa on the motor check and see if you have power at the passenger switch if yes the mcheck the motor
if not check the master for power if so fix wire if not replace master
master switch usually goes as its the most used very common problem
