I believe I recently saw an ad for someone to join a research team off
the coast of San Francisco... some islands called the Farallons...
it's a nature preserve.... they're studying the Great White sharks
which gather there and are in need of a test dummy to study shark
attacks.
"Never go swimming alone. Always swim with a buddy. That way, if a
hungry shark comes lurking, you can use you dive knife to cut your
buddy, and then swim like hell, leaving him to be a hero. After all...
that's what buddy's are for..."

For more about the Islands, which is an excellent area for fishing for
Rock Cod, is http://www.zoo.co.uk/~z9015043/farallons_main.html

I know where they are.... my paternal grandfather was a lighthouse
keeper there (back when it had one) and my dad was one of two children
who lived there.

Ever fished the area? I used to go out of Half-Moon bay when I lived
in Sunnyvale. Excellent bottom fishing for Rock Cod, Ling Cod, and
even Mackerel if you eat it.

We used to go fishing in Sausalito when we lived in Novato. Or out
Bodega Bay (our next door neighbor was a crab fisherman there).
When I was a kid, my dad followed in his father's footsteps and was in
the Coast Guard assigned to Pt Arena, Pt Reyes, Pt Cabrillio, and the
Monterey Presidio so we fished a lot of places along the coast. Never
got to go out there for fishing.
