I'm helping a buddy redo a 87 convertible, and the door is just too
rotted to reskin. He picked up a driver's door from a private owner
parting out a car about a year ago, but we just found out it's warped
badly after we finally got around to installing it.  Since coupe doors
are much easier to obtain, we were thinking of cutting a coupe door to
use in place.  I think the glass might be different, but that's not a
problem. Has anyone tried this?

IIRC Mustangs Unlimited has a large yard out back with early to late
models. I'd give them a try at www.mustangsunlimited.com .

That's the way it was done in the early eighties..I believe Ford didnt
start doing the convertibles until about 83

For what it's worth I reskinned my 88 conv with the skin from an 85 HB
door.

Have you called around collision places, esp those who do frame
straightening and asking if they can 'unwarp' the otherwise good  door you
have?

The 1987 and early 1988 used the same internals as the coupe/hatchback
doors. In late 1988 they went to the door mounted mirror and a
different window. You will have no problem converting a door for this
application. As a side note this door is the same as the 1987 T-Top
door. It is much trickier and time consuming to convert the 87-93
coupe/hatch doors for late 88-93 convertible duty.
