Is there a way for the novice restorer to touch up or restore the silvering
on the dash trim pieces? Over the years it has been worn off from cleaning
and age. Does anyone know what color of silver should be used?
Thanks in advance.

That stuff is chrome plated plastic, that they then put the plastic
wood veneer and paint on top of. There are rechromers out there, but I
can't name any off hand. Good luck.

Unless you're trying for concours, by the time you either have the
piece re chromed to your satisfaction, or get tired of trying to do
it yourself, it might be cheaper (financially and mentally) in the
long run to buy a new repro part. Something to consider.

Hey Lee,
Sometime ago I built a 69 Chevy pickemup truck.
I had the dash rechromed, it looked fantastic when done.
If you want them right, get a pro to do it.

Hey Kate, wasn't it Jerold Ford who had a dog named Liberty? Or was that
Chevy Chase?
Could be a "Ford" Liberty or "Chevy" Liberty? ROL=Role Over Liberty ;-)

Sorry for the confusion, it is not chrome, it is a silver painted plastic
surface inside the instrument cluster. I have taken the entire panel apart
and will try to airbrush it back to the way it was. I talked to a local man
who does restoration on classic mustangs and this is what he said to do. It
will take some time with the masking but relatively simple to do.
Thanks again to all that replied.
Kate, I seem to remember that Liberty ships were made of concrete and many
sank crossing the Atlantic. Hope your dingy fairs better.

Hey Lee,
If you come up with good results, be sure to put a clear coat on it, to keep
it from scuffing when you wipe the dust off of it.
