Carl - 17 Dec 2005 21:21 GMT I have always thought the perfect vehicle combination was a Jeep (Lifted with big tires) and a Mustang 'vert. Well I recently bought my 99 'vert and I all ready had a 91 Cherokee with a 3.5" lift and 31" tires. Came out this morning, and what's not there? My freaking Cherokee! So now, it's just the Mustang. :-(

Any real chance of recovering it? I would think so, given its description. Good luck!

Carl - 17 Dec 2005 21:45 GMT Only a few days.. at least it wasn't the Mustang, since I just bought it. The Cherokee is the SECOND car I've had stolen here in a short time period. The last one was my 1993 Dodge Dynasty.. they found it stripped. This was just before Thanksgiving. I'm sure the same will happen with my Cherokee.

Hope you can replace it reasonably.

All three suspects were injurted an apprehended. The tow company charged me $300 for impound fees and to take the truck to the junkyard. What a freaking ripoff.
How do I go about sueing these jerks for the loss of my vehicle, and all the expenses that go with it?

Not sure how it works, but Grand Theft Auto, evading, resisting arrest, reckless driving, etc, etc, etc (they could go on for a mile) are some pretty hefty charges, and I would assume restitution will be part of the deal. You HAVE to contact the DA!! HOPEFULLY you'll end up talking to the judge and/or jury when it all comes around too.

These dirtbags don't have any assets, so suing them would be pointless. If you don't have comprehensive insurance, that won't help. But the dirtbags could have a car insurance policy. In which case, it may cover any vehicle they may be driving. But there's probably a clause in there that says you're not covered during the comission of a crime.
Go to all their court hearings and make sure the judge and jury know how much hassle and heartbreak these dirtbags have caused. They'll probably walk anyway, though.
Go to their hospital room and spit on them.

wabbitslayer - 19 Dec 2005 21:38 GMT If you didn't have comprehensive on it, good luck. You can certainly file suit against the individuals who are responsible for the damage, but odds are the civil judgement you get will be worth about as much as the paper it will be printed on. You'll still have to execute the judgement, to seize any assests they may have (ha,ha) to satisfy it. The police dept, of course, has both insurance and money, but it's doubtful you'll get either a settlement from them or verdict that says they are liable. (The argument there is that a high-speed pursuit wasn't necessary, the counter is that then the car wouldn't have been recovered.)
Your local district attorney's office probably has a person called their "victim/witness coordinator" or "victim's rights advocate" or something like that. Call and talk to that person, see if the DA can either make resitution part of any plea deal the defendants take or recommend restituion to the judge as part of any sentence the court will impose. But even then, you're looking at a few dollars here and there for months and months.

KJ.Kate - 18 Dec 2005 12:40 GMT Hey You... I posted in the other group too but I just wonder WHY are they stealing these older cars? I mean who the hell would want to steal and strip a twelve year old Dynasty? And why hit your place twice?
Are you in a somewhat more vulnerable area?
You may have been better off if they had stolen and totaled the Mustang, it probably has full coverage on it.
So sorry this happened to you.

Carl - 18 Dec 2005 19:04 GMT Actually, my Dynasty was in excellent condition. What's worse about my Dynasty getting stolen? That my tuition + book money went to impound fees? No. It was stolen on a Friday night. That Saturday, I had arranged to give the Dynasty to a low-income family that desperately needed a car. Pictures of my crashed Jeep and stripped Dynasty can be seen at:
http://photobucket.com/albums/d96/carlsaiyed/
There was a LOT of blood in the Jeep. Pay special attention to the steering wheel.. it is bent backwards. You can't see it in the picture, but all three guys smashed head first into the windshield.
What's the irony of it all? Friday night before my girl and I got back to my place, I was talking about possibly giving the Jeep to that low-income family, since I couldn't give them the Dynasty. (I still feel bad about that)
The Jeep was parked at the end of the parking lot because we got home late. I used the Jeep to hold a spot up close so I could keep and eye on the 'Stang, and when I moved the Jeep only a few spots at the end were left. Both cars would have been parked up close had we not gone anywhere. And where were we untill late, you ask? We were in another city buying gifts to donate to 'toys for tots' event.

[quoted text clipped - 55 lines] >> >> Whatever turns you on, lady! uhh.. except the kick one. Obie f.k.a. Wound Up - 18 Dec 2005 21:16 GMT One possible explanation -
A guy came into the parts store where I worked one day, distraught because he locked himself out of his car (think it was a Buick), with it running, with a/c blasting, at rush hour. He asked if we had slim jims. The owner produced a coffee can with about 1000 keys in it.
"Start trying GM door keys, you'll find one".
Incredulous, he went out, and within 10 minutes, he had the door open.
Many keys don't -exactly- fit, but especially if the tumblers are worn, they will work. I warm up my Tempo without fear by taking the keys out of the ignition and locking it.

my dynasty is missing the radio, someone stole it while the former owner had it
if you look carefully, the right front door window is not tinted, it was replaced after the radio was stolen
which is okay, since I never am in a car for more that 5 minutes at a time, and don't need a radio
markansas859 - 20 Dec 2005 22:29 GMT have not seen many 1993's
pics of my 1991 are here, though
not bad for $750 cash, and it runs at 70, with cruise and air on

markansas859 - 20 Dec 2005 22:28 GMT simple, Kate, its PARTS. a cars value goes up three times when its choppped.
many of the Dynasty parts fit Chrysler New Yorker, and 5th Avenue FWD cars for example, doors, interior trim, powertrain, wheels, seats, switches, guages, etc.
lots of Chrysler cars use the 3.3L engine
LOTS of Chrysler cars have the infamous tranny that pukes its guts, and limps home in second gear
an old Dynasty thats running....... can be a donor car for many other cars
yeah, I used to sell car insurance, thats why I came up with these conclusions on why someone would steal a old Dynasty
