I have a 1990 Mustang GT and I recently took it in to have the heater
core replaced (worst labor ever, 9 hours) and when I got my car
back, all of a sudden the turn signals and the fan/air conditioning has
stopped working.  At first I though, oh they just blew a fuse and
iddn't replace it so I got out my fuse kit and after checking ALL the
fuses, nothing has helped.  I am at a loss here and I hate to take it
back to the shop because I know they will just tell me that it was
nothing that they did and then try to charge me an arm and a leg to
find out what it is.  If anybody has ANY idea what could be causing
this it would be much appreciated, it worked just fine before.  Thanks.

If this is the way you feel about the integrity of the shop, one has to
wonder why you took it there in the first place...... Seeing that the
function of those systems affected (meaning anything that was even merely
disconnected and reconnected) by the repair haven't been checked make me
worry.... I rarely work on cars but I *assume* that the instrument/dashboard
panel needs to be removed to accomplish this repair.... making it VERY
intrusive.... All the more reason for a good shop to check the function of
all accessories.

I can only suggest doing what you appear to dread... return to the shop and
state your case.... On the first visit, DO NOT be agressive or combative -
this will serve no purpose. This is a concern between adults an should be
handled as a concern between adults - and should be able to be resolved....

OTOH, and this may have me ostracized by the NG, it appears that Americans
are continually being screwed over..... usually at the hands of other
Americans. I have great respect for SOME of the US foreign initiatives but
it bothers me that you guys can't trust each other....

Why is it your answer is always a tongue lashing?
Canada's population is what, same as California?
That leaves 49 other states. We are a big country. We have relatively
the same problems and good things as anyone.
We don't come to Usenet to say, hey I got my car repaired, and it was
done correctly!
Oh, and by the way, we're equal opportunity, we get screwed by Canucks too!

Gill, I'm an old curmudgeon that came from a different era than most lurking
here.... My life experience encompasses much more than some that lurk
here... My balls are big and brassy enough for me to "call 'em like I see
'em"... You might be surprised to know that your response isn't a
surprise....

What I see, talking on this and many other venues..... Americans are
predisposed with f.cking each other over... "caveate emptor" is the battle
cry....  TV ads that insult ones intelligence... TV SHOWS that insult ones
intelligence.... name calling as a viable political stance....

Through face to face friendships and some of the bonds formed here and on
other venues I see that the American dream isn't dead... not yet, anyway.
However, the "anything for a buck" crowd are overpowering the good folks..
I'm gonna do what I'm gonna do and f.ck the rest of you....

Size has nothing to do with it... unless you plan on making people think
your way...

Don't get me wrong... I understand that we are going to see more of those
that are victims of unscrupulous businesses (not just auto shops.... and I
don't have the "Bernstein advantage"), but it is an overwhelming trend....
(don't forget, I'm looking at forums on the other side of the fence). I'm
talking dealer conglomerates where the bottom line is the bottom line...
happy customers be damned.

My answers can be caustic.. I make no apologies. My job is easy.. all you
need to do is think about it - it is the customers that are hard. It is some
DIYers that are hard...

Now, AZJeweller got his car back in less than ideal shape..... this was a
"wham - bam - thank you, ma'am" repair if I ever saw one.... And he is
afraid to go back to the shop... WTF is that all about????

Just to set things in to perspective... our shop is $20/hour higher than any
other shop (except for the Chevy dealer) in our town.... We run about 40%
warranty/60% retail work and we are booked over two weeks in advance... Our
goal... concern resolved in one visit and we leave the car looking like
nobody worked on it.... Attention to detail is important....

Getting back to "size"... since we are small, we depend on repeat
customers... You big guys get a constant flow of "new meat" to hose down...
get them in the shop - get what you can... if you never see them again, I
think PT Barnum said "there's one born every minute...".

Age is no excuse.

Your watching too much TV

You think we all just cower and take it? It's really not all that bad.

I think I'm getting you wrong here.

I worked in a service dept. and I understand this. All that I saw was
problems. But that was my job, to fix problems. The company I worked for
is the largest of it's type in the country, so on the Internet, most of
the problems posted are about this company....Because THEY ARE THE
BIGGEST. So now most people think this company sucks, but they no
different than any other.

You happen to be in one industry that has it's share of unscrupulous
characters. But you're blanketing the idea that bad business practice is
rampant across all the US. I resent that.

By the way, I think the OP may have just wanted to see if the switches
not operating, might just be an easy (plug this wire here) type of fix.
And it doesn't sound like the shop was trying to rip him off...Just
human error.

The rest of the commercial snipped.

Warman just likes to hear himself talk.  I really don't think he's
Canadian.

Jim,
I actually have had this shop do work for me before, they had done a
great job replacing my oil pan when i found the drain plug was stripped
on the inside of the pan.  They did a great job, and that is why I went
back to them.  I then took it back there when I had my alternator
bracket break and had to have that replaced, and they even let me help
them find a part since Ford wanted $400 for a new one (they were
astonished by this) and I found a used one for like $20.  They put it
on, and showed me the old broken one so I really thought by then that I
could trust them.  Plus they have Mustangs in there on a regular basis,
they had 3 in there last time I was there, they work on them all the
time.  I think I have decided to bring it back there and let them see
if they just pinched a wire somwhere or forgot to hook something back
up.  GOD i just wish i had all the tools/equpiment to work on my own
car, then none of this would happen. >:(
