SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - California filed suit against Ford Motor Co.,
General Motors Corp., Toyota Motor Corp. and three other carmakers on
Wednesday, charging that greenhouse gases from their vehicles have cost
the state millions of dollars.

State Attorney General Bill Lockyer said the lawsuit filed in U.S.
District Court in Northern California was the first of its kind to seek
to hold manufacturers liable for the damages caused by their vehicles'
emissions.

The lawsuit also names Chrysler Motors Corp., the U.S. arm of Germany's
DaimlerChrysler, and the North American units of Honda Motor Co. and
Nissan Motor Co. Ltd.

I know this would never happen but I would like to see ALL automakers
immediately stop shipping new cars to California.  They want to stop
global warming, that would be a good start.  I swear, that state must be
chock full of complete idiots.

No, it's full of lawyers and wet backs.

I live in the Washington, DC area and we have the highest concentration
of lawyers of anywhere in the country.  No one here would put up with
such nonsense so I can't attribute it all to lawyers.  There has to be
another component out there that is behind all that stupidity.  If I had
to guess it would be the far left wing, environmental wacko, lunatics
running the political asylum.  To me it looks like San Fransisco is the
puppet master for the rest of the state.   It also looks like Arnold has
caught the loony bug too.  I think he forgot why he ran in the first
place and is willing to whore himself out to get re-elected.

No, it's full of common, ordinary people just like any other state. In
fact, the county I live in is quite hicky. What California has that few
other states have is a well heeled group of lobbyists and wacko liberals,
who file suits against anything and everything. Almost every proposition
that is passed by the voting public is held up in court before it can
become law.

More of you normal people need to come out and vote then.  California
has two of the most wacko liberal Senators any state has sent to
Congress.  I think there are far fewer of those "normal" people than you
realize. ;)

Yeah, but we have the "Guvernator." What other state can claim that? ;)

I grew up in NC, lived in both VA and WV, and aside from the lack of a
Southern accent, I can hardly tell the difference between the people
here and those other states. Places like Hollywood, San Francisco, and
LA get all the headlines. You're right, voter apathy here is extreme -
and the special interest groups get their supporters in the big cities
all in a frenzy, so that they usually carry the vote. The typical rural
Californian is more like a Southerner than anything else. In fact, many
of them are descended from the Okies, and some still carry a distinct
Southern twang in their dialect.

BTW, where in hell is Spike these days? He could chime in on this.

I'm considering suing the estate of John Smeaton..... In 1756, Smeaton first
developed modern concrete...

Many years ago, as a child, I was learning to ride my very first bicycle. I
took a tumble on a concrete sidewalk and skinned my knees. Since then, my
life has been greatly affected by the knowledge that falling on concrete
could possibly result in skinned knees..... very stressful, as you can
imagine. Were it not for Smeatons work, I would have fallen on a dirt path
and, without this overwhelming knowledge that falling on concrete will hurt,
there is every chance I could have been King... errrrr.... I meant, Prime
Minister of Canada....

OTOH, I could have named God and Mother Nature as co-respondants in a class
action suit regarding dirty pants knees....

My next door neighbor and his wife work at the local RJR Tobacco plant
and couldn't believe it when big tobacco started being held liable for
people dieing from smoking. They both smoke and said "What, did all
these people really believe that smoking was risk free? Did they think
the warnings on the packs was a joke?"

So, you'll forgive me when I say that yes, if this makes it to court
that the automakers will probably be forced to do or pay *something* for
our sins. it has become the American way to drive ourselves into the
dirt as deep as possible and then blame the people that made the shovel
for not providing a ladder to get ourselves back out.
