CobraJet - 22 Feb 2007 19:30 GMT WF and the Froggenator have never heard of Master Power Brakes? What planet have you guys been on for tha last two decades? They have full page ads in many of the trade magazines and constantly come out with new stuff. Finally you get spammed by an ON Topic company and it's instantly "PANTIES IN A BUNCH!!!"
I don't know if they are "#1" in the brake aftermarket, or if that can even be accurately determined, but they probably have the best shot at it. Man, are you out of touch.

All I see is Patrick doing his normal mass-media puke, and a few clueless newbies. The newbies would be best served taking their newbie questions to web forums. It's amazing to me that actually knowledgeable people like Warman and Big Al stick around.

Anyway, my post was to point out how incredible it was that you two are unfamiliar with MP Brakes, not to enlighten you about the BB group.

Patrick's been putting his mass-media puke out here for over a decade. Newbies have been posting the same damn questions as long as I've been here (and I was one, myself). As with anything else, if you don't like the show, change the channel. But in THIS case, you have the ability to control the content of the show, to an extent.

Btw, while I still have the Mach1, I went over to the dark side and added a C6 to the mix in the driveway. :)

Glad to hear from you, and glad you're still driving the Mach1. Congrats on the C6 btw! That's a nice side to be on.
Everybody's well, thanks, hope the same's true for you. Joe's driving the LX now, but he'll be giving it up next year when he goes away to school. No car for the first year, but that will give me time to think about the LX as a restomod.

I still love Mustangs affordability and their simpler form and function. Getting into the Corvette is like sitting in the pilot seat of a modern jet aircraft. It rides better than any Mustang I've ever had and the LS2 power is mind boggling but for pure raw fun? A Mustang is still hard to beat. :)

It's cool how it starts off docile and turns into a beast.

I have had some rather lengthy OT thread interactions, as you appear to know about, that I thoroughly enjoyed. No one is forced to read anything here if the topic annoys them. I can only answer so many subframe connector questions in a week before going mad and seeking out an OT thread to wedge myself into. I do salivate at the chance to answer a question about blowers though. Unfortunately they are few and far between. I think every group has discussions that wonder off the reservation to varying degrees.
Anymore, I look at this place as my own personal "Cheers" of Usenet. Although I have actually met just a few of the people here personally, I consider many to be good friends anyway. If I came here for tech discussions only I would have left a long, long time ago. The idea of ramfm and ahpbbfm pissing on each other does make me chuckle. It's good entertainment. Wait.... did I just see a new subframe connector post? Hot damn! I gotta go now!

That does me for the first 100,000 miles. Don't be so crude. There's the guy that sells the paper towel and toilet roll filters. Those come with a nice machined aluminum screw on case. Now there is a guy on one of the Titan forums I read who uses some type of high quality reusable oil filter. I don't know what's on the inside. I DO know he should probably be dumping PTFE into it though. That's what Fram does so it must be right.

I'm starting my eighth year as a participant in ramfm and I only just met a ramfm-er face to face last Saturday night. Laurie S. came to the SF Bay Area to plan for an upcoming MCA regional show and she got together with some of us Vintage Mustang Forum members for dinner. She got to see my '65 fb, my wife, my bald spot, my wife's bald spot . . . so yes, these words on the monitor are actually put there by real people.

Maybe you've become a specialist, where I remain a general practitioner. Maybe you've developed a MUCH lower standard of annoyance than I have.
RAMFM is all things Mustang. Beyond that, RAMFM is all things that are related to Mustangs. This allows a wide, free-ranging discussion. The fact that it's also an unmoderated newsgroup means that anything goes, and I welcome that.
I have no interest in narrowing its focus or the contributions of anyone else.
In fact, back to the genesis of this thread, I have no real problem with John advertising his products in this newsgroup. His ads are not spam, in any sense of the word, but on topic advertisements (something I've actually defended in other newsgroups). Now, while ads here may not be considered a good thing, they are at the least relevant to Mustangs. If I had control over this newsgroup, I probably would have let them get in.
My real problem with RAMFM is the overall decline in posts. While much of this is a seasonal thing (it slows down every winter), I'll bet that the statistics will prove that newsgroups in general are going the way of the big-block Mercury. There's a slow and steady exodus to web-based forums, even those that derive the bulk of their content by mirroring these very newsgroups.
I suppose that if I really "got with the times," I'd buy a new Mazda and join a couple of discussion forums about how great drifting is, even though I never actually do it.

And yet WF torques up his panties some more this morning and regurgitates the same tired old "Usenet Policy". You guys need to get sorted out.

This is very old news, which is why you need to step into the here and now. I used make runs through the whole alt.auto hierarchy to keep an eye on the action. It was evident three years ago that these groups would become a wasteland. Did you not see that all those guys from other ng's stopped sticking their noses in here?
The exodus to the Web was not slow at all. It was, with broadband and improved interfacing, inevitable. Their success has nothing to do with "mirroring" newsgroups. The overwhelming majority of the members there don't even know what Usenet is.
Matter of fact, dwight, I think the single biggest reason for the proliferation of web forums is the existence of some degree of moderation which has eliminated the flamewar. Yep, that glorious debacle which in old days used to define Usenet itself. Turns out, most people would rather talk shop than argue.
I went on cable and into the Web about 15 months ago. I found guys that had been in Usenet that were quite happy over there. Of course, I had to be "normal", but I got used to it. I've learned more last year than in all the prior time in newsgroups. Go figure.
> I suppose that if I really "got with the times," I'd buy a new Mazda and > join a couple of discussion forums about how great drifting is, even though > I never actually do it. Ah, open your eyes. If the decline in posting bothers you, think of what you and the others can do to increase it. Start by asking yourself why you posted the above sentence. If that's how you see things, then you've already lost.

I guess "panties in a bunch" has a MUCH looser translation in your world. It used to have something to do with popping blood vessels, but you throw it around as synonymous with "annoyed." That's the second time you've referred to my panties, which, I assure you, remain unwadded.
Oh, but now you'll tell me that my panties are in a wad over something that YOU posted, too. After all, I replied...

First you drag out a reference to a thread about windshield wipers, knowing that I had NO part in that one, as some sort of slam against me, and now you drag the Fox into it. This is me, Jet. dwight. Try to stay focused when you respond to something I write. I know it's getting harder with each passing year, but, in the end, you'll find that things make more sense.
When you see a post and before you hit REPLY, you can usually see who the author of the post was. Mine probably say something like "dwight." If it says "Windsor Fox," that's the other guy.

And "I" have to catch up???
Dude... Seriously.
You're one of those guys who believes what he believes, and everyone who doesn't agree is wrong. That's fine. Believe me, I think this world would be flat out unlivable if everyone agreed all the time, if everyone shared the same thinking.
It's all about choices, Jet. I've been aware of the internets for a little longer than 15 months, and I make great use of its resources. I fully understand that usenet is but one small piece of the great pie. (In your limited braintrust, you only see my posts here, so you probably figure that this is my only internet presence. It's understandable.)
But I'm able to do more than one thing at a time. It's called "multitasking." You might want to Google that for more information.
Hint: type http://www.google.com into your "browser" - you know, the window that shows you the Nets. You'll see the big word "GOOGLE" come up, with a white rectangle below that. Your cursor (the blinky thing) will already be in that box. Just type the word "multitasking" and hit the button marked "Enter." You'll be amazed...

Personally, I'm happy you're here - we've tripled the daily posts in ramfm over the past couple of days. THAT's content, baby.
uh... wait... lost what?

Says you, I still never heard of them. On topic has nothing to do with being spam or not. Commercial advertisements are against the FAQ for all discussion groups on Usenet. Excessive MotorSports had multiple full page ads as well and because one crusty old a.shole heard of them certainly doesn't make them a household name.
