1) uses '95 Cobra motor
2) uses IRS
3) "I think the hood scoop is a marketing thing" -- (Brock doesn't get
it.)
4) 1-year of production
Though I must admit the take off in the video was pretty impressive.

That video is infamous for those of us on the Mach 1 Registry...besides
engine and suspension in accuracies, the Brock Yates comments about
vision impairment were silly.

Umm. AFAIK, there was NEVER a Lincoln counterpart to the Mustang. The
closest thing was the Mercury Cougar WAY back in the day.

What about the Mercury Capri? Wasn't that close to one of the Mustangs
many moons ago?

Yeah, that was the Fox body counterpart to the Mustang, but it STILL isnt a
Lincoln.

Just jumping in here. This talk
about odd Lincolns or Mercs
reminded me of a movie I saw the
other night. I don't know its name,
but it Has Robert Redford in it and
he was driving a 64 maybe 65 truck,
and the tailgate read Mercury.
Anyone know about the truck?

Wow, so Mercury did make trucks
back then. Thanks.

IIRC, those sold only in Canada and not the U.S.

Starting in 2005 the Mustang is based on the same platform as the
Lincoln LS/Ford Thunderbird/Jaguar S-Type.
Tony Alonso - 23 Nov 2007 17:59 GMT
It is not the same platform. Parts of the LS architecture were carried
over, but the chassis is specific only to the Mustang. That Wikipedia
article might not have all of the information 100% correct.

The Wikipedia articles mentions that parts of the LS are carried over
but that it is not the same chassis -
"Considered a new platform by Ford Motor Company
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Motor_Company> D2C is loosely based
on the Ford DEW platform
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_DEW_platform> which served as the
basis for the Lincoln LS <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lincoln_LS>, Ford
Thunderbird <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Thunderbird>, and Jaguar
S-Type <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jaguar_S-Type>. The 2005 S197
Mustang was originally designed to use a "Lite" version of the DEW98
platform, but while that plan was eventually scrapped as too expensive,
most D2C platform development completed prior to that decision was
retained. This led to the carryover of several DEW98 chassis components.
These components include the floor pans, portions of the transmission
tunnel <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transmission_tunnel>, the front
frame rails, and basic fuel tank
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fuel_tank> design."

I didn't see any "chrome rimmed" gauges.
