Well...
Princess got a new car stereo setup for Christmas. Her '99 Mystique had lost
one speaker after another over the years, and of late she had no tunes at
all. So I had a nice little Sony unit installed (CD/iPod, etc.) along with 4
Pioneer speakers, and she is absolutely lovin' it. For her, the Geek Squad
at Best Buy did a good job on the install. They also found that the factory
amp had blown, which may have been part or parcel of the problem in the
first place. No matter, the factory unit was pumping out 3W and the amp
kicked it up to 40W. Her Sony is now cruising at 50W all by itself, and
Princess can listen to all of the tunes on her Nano.
Now, for CFrog, I decided to go with a local car stereo shop (no Geek Squad
for ME). I thought about a separate amp with a subwoofer, but backed off of
that. I'm more classical than rock, so I don't need a thoroughly boomin'
bass. My ears like a natural bass and a full spectrum of sound, so I went
with some nice Boston Acoustics all around. Besides, an amp and subwoofer
would have taken up all usable space in the trunk.
The shop owner also talked me into a Kenwood X791 head unit, although I'm no
fan of Kenwood. iPod cable is tucked in the glovebox. I got to spend a total
of about 30 minutes so far with the manual, trying to figure out what-all
this puppy can do, and the manual is CRAP. Definitely not written by an MIT
engineer whose native language is English. Even so, I did manage to call up
Dire Straits on my iPod on the way home and listened to most of Brothers in
Arms. The setup sounds VERY good, even in a GT convertible.
So far, I am very pleased.
Now, if only I can figure out how to change the display from blue to
green...

I have a 10 band graphic eqalizer in the glove box (along with my FM
Modulator for the DVD Player). And after some time with it, I dropped
by the local (2 blocks away) window tint shop which shares space with
the car stereo shop. After a short test of a Bazooka 6" internal amp
sub, I am VERY glad I added it. I, too, am more into the music than
the volume, and my interests range from classical to CW to soft rock,
hard rock, heavy metal, etc (just leave out the RaP Crap and the real
twangy cryin' in yer beer 'cause the ol' lady done took off with yer
dawg and yer pickemup truck load o' beer so yer poppin' pills and
drivin yer rig ta catch her so's you can get yer dawg and the beer
back country :0) Anyways, the sub was a real improvement.

I had a similar problem myself with a Jensen CD player, I the case of the
Jensen the display was an obnoxious turquoise, way too bright at night. I
removed the circuit board from behind the LCD display and replaced the LED's
with some green ones purchased at a local autoparts store. These things are
normally used by the ricers to dress up their cars so they can look "cool"
at night.

With this Kenwood, I was able to switch over to an almost all-text display
with a choice of three colors for the text - very light blue, a darker blue,
and red. The knobs still glow blue, but I can live with it.
The screen-saver video of swimming dolphins was the first thing to go.

I think that unit has some kind of a pseudo-Gforce thing built in.
It'll attempt to measure torque, speed, etc. or something like that.
Essential stuff for a car stereo... :p

Indeed it does. Calculates horsepower, too. I saw that in the manual and
skipped right over the whole mess. That's what the track is for.

Now that you opened the door, inquiring minds will want to know - how
much hp does it say CFrog has?
Make sure to take mesurements with different tunes playing. You might
get more hp with AC/DC as compared to Celine Dion.

In order to use the program, I'd have to ask CFrog how much it weighs. And I
don't pry.
