Dumb Ranger question

Hey,

I have a 99 Ranger which has dead interior light door switches and
believe it or not I can't find em. All I can see is a black rubber
thing about the size of my finger tip but it doesn't look like a
switch at all.

Thanks

Nick..

Nick,

The switches are located inside the door on the latch.
Alot of times people have trouble with the lights staying
on esp after say rain or snow anything with alot of moisture.

Try spraying some wd40 or contact cleaner and see if
that helps first. Alot of time they are just gunked up.

If not you now know where to look and you can set
aside an afternoon to replace them. Not impossible to
do just a pia.

Thanks Tim,
My girlfriend was told by a local garage that the door switches would
trigger the check engine light (that they were supposed to fix). I
think this is BS but before I go in there and tell em so I figured I'd
ask.
Code on my reader is 401, ERG flow too low.
Thanks

Nick,

Thats a first telling someone the door switch will
trigger a engine light. I guess that is not really a first.

Your engine light is triggered when a code is stored
in the computer when an emission or engine control
sensor fails or detects a problem. In no way shape or
form would the door condition cause that.

Tim,

That's exactly what I thought (and told her at the time) but she just
gave me the report from the garage (Park Auto in Rockville) and they
charged her $67 to say "check codes in computer found code 1207 for
bad door ajar/theft deterant code, which sets the check engine light"

My $40 code reader gives abck 0401 for EGR flow too low, same garage
already changed the EGR valve.............. And as it is suposed to
resets the light on the 4th readback. but it comes back after a short
drive. I was told by other folks on the group to check the EGR valve
and solenoid (which is my fav and only about $25). For this problem
alone we have spent close to $300 with these people. Is there some
body to report crappy garages too?

Thanks
