I have an 83 351W (83 - 93 one piece real main seal) that I was hoping to
put in an older (69 -72) pickup or mustang. It came out of a Bronco, and
most of the early 80's 351's were put in Vans, trucks, LTDs and Crown Vics.
Will this engine bolt into a earlier Ford truck or Mustang? Is there an
internet resource that might help? I do know there are different oil pans
available for different applications.
Thanks,
Joe

If it is a "W" it will fit where there was a 289, 302, or a 300 6cyl.
I know there is another or two, but these I'm sure of.
The pan and maybe the oil pick up will have to be changed to fit the
application.
Also, some of these motors had the oil dipstick tube in the pan, some in the
driver-side of the block, and some in the front timing cover.

A 351W will bolt into the '67-'72 Ford pickups as long as you use the
'70-'72 302 frame stands. (The 302 wasn't available until '70 for these
trucks, and the 351W was never offered.) The engine WILL physically fit
onto the I6/FE stands, but the engine will sit an inch too high. (There
are side-by-side comparison photos of the 302 stands vs. the I6/FE
stands at http://www.fordification.com/enginestands.htm if you need the
visual.)
If you decide to do this to one of this generation's trucks, you should
check out the FORDification.com website and forum, which is dedicated to
the '67-'72 trucks. Lots of good info.
