2005 F-250 CrewCab PowerStroke
5000 Miles

There is a mist of oil on the underside of the hood above the oil
filter cap area.  The oil filter cap doesn't appear to be leaking.  A
call to the dealer got a response of "This is normal" but it's still
going in for inspection.

What could be causing this oil leak evidence?

No matter what happens, someone will find a way to take it too
seriously.

Smell it, is it oil or fuel?

Pretty sure it's oil.

It's a very common problem and the most often misdiagnosed. More often then
not, it's the CAC line, more specifically the inadequate clamp holding it.
The oil filter/housing is not under enough pressure to spray a mist up to
the underside of the hood. The other problem on some the 6.0L was a leaky
turbo lube line. The problem I had with my 2004 was a leaky CAC.
