Determining transmission model?

1995 Ford E250 4.9L L6 cargo van here.  The transmission pan has no labeling
or other identification.  Lot salesman told me it's a 3-speed, but this
same guy also initially told me it was a V8 (it's a straight 6).  Gear
shifter dial has 'D', '1', '2'.  I've been assuming it's a C6 3-speed
transmission as this was the 3-speed for 1995 Econolines listed in the Ford
factory manual.  What would be the indications that this was actually a
4-speed/AOD/E4OD and not the C6? I really know nothing about transmissions,
but I have to pick up some replacement bushing for the extension housing
and need to be sure about this info.

thanks

Uuumm, let's see... When you are driving, does it shift into a fourth
forward gear?

I've tried to listen, but it shifts so smoothly I honestly can't tell.
Anything in particular in the design appearance that would give it away?

There's always something on the shifter that gives them away as far as I
know. If the D just looks exactly like the 1 and 2, then I guess it's a
3-speed. I'm not sure when they quit making non-electronic AOD's. I kind of
think that being a 1995 it would have an overdrive off switch (electronic)
if it had overdrive.

A 1995 would have an OD cancel button on the end of the shift lever if it
was a 4 speed.  If you have no button for OD cancel, you have a 3 speed
transmission.  Obviously, if you have a 3 speed in a 3/4 ton van, it's gonna
be a C6.

I believe you would have either an E4OD 4 speed or a C6.  I
don't believe the 4R70W was used in the F250.  If you have
an OD cancel button in the end of the selector lever, it is
likely an E4OD.  If there is no OD cancel button, it is
likely a C6 3 speed.  It would not be an AOD as they were
discontinued a couple of years earlier.  You can look at pan
pictures at the link below to figure out which one you have.
