My chilton is seriously lacking.
No mention of torques for any of the important parts.
1 carrier to housing nuts
2 axle retaining plates
3 yoke (pinion flange) nut The old rusty one came
off the old pumpkin without too much fanfare,
a little kroil and a tired impact wrench.
I had to buy a new (more powerful)
wrench to get the nut off of the new pumpkin.
Any figures or pointers will be welcome.
If it makes any difference, it is a 1979 F150 with a 460 and auto.
Thanks
The amount of torque on the pinion, is based on the amount of torque
required, In inch pounds, to turn the pinion, once the bearings are
preloaded properly. In the process of tightening the nut., you are crushing
the crush washer. Go to far, and you have to start over with a new one.
