My '82 F-100 longbed has a 300 inline 6, 1-barrel, and ac with no belt
on it...
I removed the charcoal cannister, the windshield washer/radiator
reservoir, the filters that attached to the air cleaner...all because
one day the choke was sticking, and it ran a LOT better w/o the air
cleaner...
I want to get some type of washable foam to clamp around the top of the
carb, remove the catalytic converter, running a straight pipe to the
muffler, and take off EVERY pollution device I can.
I'm 80% sure the cat/converter is stopped up, the washer fluid never
did work, and I don't mind checking the radiator at the cap.
I want to take off the a/c, and toss it, as I don't mind the vent
windows in summer (GA)!
Should a shop do this a/c disconnect?
It has passed it's final emissions test, and I have no moral problems
with driving a tuned up truck...
when I "kick the bucket" it goes in front of WalMart w/ a $1000
sign...it will bring  this even if I camo it...
I DON"T feel like a polluter 'cause every day I see thousands of soccer
moms driving their huge SUV's, sitting ALONE!

Can I run a hose from the top back of the valve cover to the top front,
or leave these openings alone?
What other things can be removed?  Will I have to adjust the timing?
Anyone have webpages or links with ideas? Pictures?
Any help appreciated!

I would reinstall a stock type air cleaner as a foam one will not
filter well and it will cause carb to get dirty more often. If the
choke sticks, clean the carb as that is why it is sticking. You do not
want to just vent valve cover opening to air as it is not just about
emmisions but also about vent crankcase with filtered air to keep dirt
out of it. I would not throw away A/C either as they are nice to have
sometimes. Also on the charcol canister, it does you no harm leaving
it in and it actually saves you a bit of fuel in that the gas vapors
are burned to power vehicle rather than vented to air and it is really
silly to pitch it.

You should feel like a polluter.  Your de-smogged vehicle
probably pollutes the air as much as at least 10 of those
huge SUV's combined!

Likely true though the 10 SUV's would make a LOT more CO2 which is
also a greenhouse gas and is currently unregulated in vehicles but
will be in California starting in 2008 and it has Detroit panicing
because it will likely spread to rest of US in next 5 years or so and
change the way the can build vehicles because big SUV's make a lot of
CO2 and whie a lot escaped the MPG requirement by keep rated GVW above
8600 or playing tricks with EPA test, there will be no escape from CO2
limits.

You know, it's probably best to take it to your local muffler shop. Make
sure you pay with a check or credit card, that way the Feds will nail you
and dole out the associated fine/imprisonment.

I didn't know there were so many wits in this group...you're obviously
not from the south - I COULD take it to any muffler shop and get that
done ('cept for the rip-off chain stores)...I have another cat.
converter that some Jiffy Lube guys gave me - I might put that on -
my question was concerning the performance of the truck, but I guess
nobody can answer that.
I haven't even started really taking smog stuff off, but I notice my
mileage is improving already.  Today I tossed the jack and holder that
sit near the firewall - useless weight...d'ya think the jack removal
cops might come after me?

They'd be the ones in the black helicopters.

Actually I grew up in the South, but since the South lost the war they are
still a part of the USA and Federal emissions laws still apply, even in
Georgia...but if you are convinced "any" muffler shop would risk their
license by committing a Federal offense, go ahead and give it a try.

Dya mean "George &Tammy's Are YOU Saved?" actually has a license?
I know you can have performance with a cat converter, but what about
them getting clogged up?
I think people just hollow them out, in case the local Barney Fife
looks under the truck, but I'll go with putting the unused one on...
