My 2000 Ford Expedition suffered an engine fire due to the faulty
cruise control deactivation device that shorted and ignited the master
brake cylinder.

And thats why you should never park any cars that are affected by the recall
in your garage

So when that letter came in the mail from Ford, telling you to
disconnect the switch, why didn't you do it?

Good point. The letter when out over a year ago (

In the captions around the pictures, the OP states that one of the firemen,
and then his insurance adjuster told him about the recall.

Then the guy must be living in a cave.

Could be.

But, other than in this newsgroup, I'd never heard of it either. I have
three trucks that the recall covers and I've never received a notice either.
I bought them all new. My cousin, on the other hand, has a truck that
doesn't fall under the recall, and he got a letter.

Big whoopse here on my end!! - I have a '99 F-150 Lariat.  I never got a
letter, but remember seeing it posted in here a while back.  However, I
forgot about it and never did anything. Unfortunately, I'm not going to be
able to get it in to the dealer for a while due to work reasons.  I do
remember there being a video posted that showed the disconnect process and
that it would take 10 seconds to do.  Does anyone have that link so I can do
it myself?  That way, I can sleep safe at night since my truck is in my
garage. (gulp!)
I can then make an appointment as soon as time permits to get the
patch/adapter/fix they came up with.

Thanks!

Scott

I got a letter and my sister got a letter.  Neither one of us has a
vehicle that the recall covers.

FYI - The pictures are from July 2005.

So this did not just happen.

I never received the recall notice, just as someone else in this thread
mentioned.

I owned the SUV for less than a year, and I never heard about the
recall. :(

Alright, alright, alrighty!  That was enough to remind me to book my
appointment.  LOL.  I'm going in on Saturday, if the truck hasn't burned
my house down by then.  Ford sent me a notice that the parts were in two
months ago but I was working out of town in March.  They say I'll be in
and out in a half hour.  Anyone been that lucky?

I haven't seen the fix but I believe they just add some inline
fuses to the circuit.

I pulled into the dealership lot, the service manager came out and plugged
in the new module and tie-wrapped it in place. Didn't even have to drive the
truck into one of the bays. I was gone in about 4 minutes. Probably would
have been much faster if I had parked a little closer to the door of the
service entrance.

Cheers,
Lawrence

That sounds great.  I'll park right in front of the door.  Maybe I can
get away in 3 minutes.

Well, it took about 6 minutes for the installation.  I made an
appointment and then ended up going in about half an hour early.  Same
deal as for Lawrence, but it took 2 minutes longer.  On the other hand I
guess I could say it was done 24 minutes before I was due to show up.

For anyone who hasn't done this yet:  Take it by the dealership, it is
free and entirely painless.
