4.3 v8 noise

   have 98 econoline with the 4.3 v8 overhead cam engine. there is i
light knock you can feel all over the engine. i remember reading a
bulliten in the motor magazine years ago but was hoping someone here
might remember. its not piston slap or rod knock noise . is pretty
constant hot or cold.  thanks for any help. lucas

Does it change any from cold to hot?

   doesnt change hot or cold. you really have to listen to hear it,but
you can feel it if you touch any part of the engine.lucas

    found the problem.. it was in the alternator. the rear shaft part
of the armature was worn an 1/8 inch so it was loose in the bearing
race. the armature was scraping on the feild winding,,still working but
scraping. was going to put brgs in till i got it apart,rebuilt alt
time..gee... lucas
